Biography
Firestone
A regal, lost to a storm
Thunder made the earth quake and the trees shake, thrashing the ground with rain that pelted mercilessly. Dragons had long since ran for cover in the nearest nooks they could find, although that meant nests left out in the open were sure to be destroyed. Mothers that couldn't bear to lose their little ones managed to gather a few eggs and bring them into the warmth, but large clutches spelt disaster. Not every egg could be saved, after all.
One nest lay out in a flat clearing by a cliff. The eggs were placed in the centre of the shallow dip in the ground, and a mother was nowhere in sight. The clutch wasn't large, of only three eggs, yet one loomed bigger than the other too. The shell was more glossy and glimmered in the flashes of lightning. A egg of royalty, it seemed so out of place beside the other two.
A tree was struck by a strong bolt of lightning, and it shuddered and groaned. The base of it's side was taken out, and without strong bark to support it, it wobbled, then started to fall. When it crashed to the ground, it fell over the nest and crushed the two smaller eggs. Two lives were lost as shells broke under the weight of the tree, and it's boughs knocked the bigger egg out of the nest. It rolled with the momentum of both the impact and the wind, closer and closer to the edge until-
"NO!" A cry run out as the egg fell, and a bogsneak appeared. She saw her two crushed eggs, and then bounded to the edge, but the egg was gone, swept by the waves. She sobbed, and doubled over. It seemed that all three lives were lost in the midst of the storm that night.
"Firestone!" A voice called. The young bogsneak turned, faceted eyes gazing across the field to spot a lanky pearlcatcher.
"One moment, mother!" She called in return, placing down the small rabbit that she had been holding. It followed her claws, wanting more of the loving affection she had been showering it in, and she only chuckled and gave it a little rub on the head, before standing, and heading over to her mother. She greeted her with an elegant smile, then followed her back to the small home they had. It was just her and her mother there, along with all of their livestock.
Firestone had yet to learn that her mother was not in fact her biological mother. Her egg had been found on the shores of the lightning realm, and taken in, saved in the nick of time. She sometimes did wonder about her eye colour being different to her mother, but she was old enough to know to focus on other things rather than that. And one day, she would learn of how she came to be in this place, a regal egg in such a humble home. Though her mother suspected that she would not mind. She had seen the way that Firestone looked at the valley.
She loved it there.
