Biography
Zhen the Wish all in my power Theme: Kindle My Heart |
━━ story ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Zhen turned her face to the wind, feeling the storm coming. She felt the distant lightning shake the ground beneath her. She spread her wings slightly, making sure to cover the dragons gathered underneath them like chicks to their mother hen. “If we hurry, we can make it to the next inn along this way,” Zhen said, nodding her head toward a distant flickering light. “I’m sure they’ll have enough accomodations for us all.” The Pearlcatcher, already antsy with the delays in their journey, looked up at her. “Will we reach the camp in three days as planned, though? Being late would be… unfortunate.” Zhen nodded. “Oh, yes. I’m sure the weather will clear up by tomorrow morning.” She was sure of no such thing, but panicking helped no one. “Come on, everyone, pick up your feet.” Just as she spoke, the rain started. Thunder rumbled and cracked and… screamed? “Look out!” One of the Skydancers crouched, eyes up to the sky. It wasn’t a moment later before he leaped up to meet the flock of Harpies descending from the clouds, dressed in their battle regalia and wielding spears and magic. The rest of the fighting dragons followed their friend into the air. Zhen pulled the rest of the travelers close under her wings and watched. Hail rained on her wings, but she felt nothing. Lightning might have struck. She smiled in defiance at the full force the Harpies brought to bear, and all for nothing. A few Faes and the Pearlcatcher peeked out from under her expansive wing, but they knew they were safe. Just to show them they couldn’t hurt her, she roared with the thunder. |

━━ history ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
|
Born from a relationship that was more harmful than loving, Zhen was the runt, and protected carefully in her father's arms, in the arms of a god of storms. Small and weak, she spent most of her time sleeping. There were days her father would wonder whether she would be lucky enough to wake up the next day. She always did. One morning, her father's voice, as soft as it was, woke her like the whisper of distant thunder. “One last star in the sky, Zhen.” The Imperial pointed toward the horizon opposite the rising sun. “One last wish. And I wish you to be strong. Strong and safe.” Though Zhen would never be as strong as her father, she always felt safe. Like the tallest tree in the forest, Zhen seemed to attract storms wherever she went. However, unlike the trees of her home, she never feared them. Water rolled from her leathery wings, wind did nothing but lift her higher, earth did nothing but make her sturdier. Even lightning, for all its power, couldn’t hurt her. Her father’s wish seemed to have come true. Even though Zhen is no fighter, she is a strong defender. Her natural immunity to every type of magic known to Sornieth makes her both unique and invaluable. When she was confident enough, she left her home to explore. She found her size and ability lent to employment as a protector. Though she travels with the Tempest Chase from time to time (they provide her with contacts and a place to stay when between jobs), she doesn’t consider herself that type of mercenary. Even though Zhen feels a strong affinity to most elements (perhaps an ironic emotion on her part), she is doubtless a Nature dragon... but more often than not she feels like a Plague dragon. Like her cousins in the land of the Plaguebringer, Zhen has somehow developed an immunity to everything that may want to hurt her. An ice pick is little more than a gentle prod. The brightest fire and heaviest rain won’t touch her. Some might say it’s entirely unnatural. Zhen doesn’t think so. After all, what could be more natural than feeling invisible when she knows she is so loved by her father? |
━━ familiar ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Like many dragons that come into the Tempest Chase’s employ, Zhen was given charge of a familiar. Even though Chary the Hibernal Starbear doesn’t seem too interested in anything but sleep, she puts up with Zhen quite well. When she’s not snoozing in Zhen’s tent, she doesn’t seem to mind traveling with her as long as she’s allowed frequent naps. The affection does seem to be somewhat one-sided. Zhen has made an entire wardrobe of wonderfully sparkly and soft clothes for the bear, and Chary gamely accepts wardrobe changes every now and again. In fact, if the Tempest Chase didn’t know any better… they’d say she actually enjoys it. |
━━ notes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
» Zhen took the surname Stormstrong in memory of her father. » » In her free time, Zhen enjoys making beautiful capes and coats. Though she doesn’t like weaving too much, she loves embroidering. |
