In the Tangled Wood everything glows and strange magic imbues local dragons. Night too developed hardening of the skin, especially on her hands and feet. The stone-like pieces shone in the fungus' glow, changing colors ranging from pink to blue. This rare coloration made her all the more attractive to possible mates.
She, on the other hand, felt inspired to make something that would imitate the glow and the changing of colors and so she found her passion; jewelry. She'd use whatever she could find; leftover bones, tree bark, few leaves and small animal skulls. Often, she would sneak over to the Forum and dig through the junk gathered by the Shadowbinder; for this is where she'd find most material and inspiration. And when she started making a piece, she'd often get so immersed that a whole day could pass before Night would notice.
On one such occasion, she gave up the search only upon realizing she's barely keeping her eyes open. Seeing no harm in it, Night curled up in the middle of the Forum, keeping her pearl close to herself, and feel sound asleep.
The pearl suddenly started slowly turning black, until it became as if it was a part of her body. But inside it, Night, suddenly awake, could see millions of shining stars, glowing brightly. It was like a whole other universe opened up in that small ball she always carried with her.
Something fell on her head; a drop of mass, something thicker than water. As she opened her eyes, realizing the image was just a dream she had, Night came snout to snout with the Shadowmom herself.
"Mmmn, I see..."
Night felt no fear, it was the ShadowMOM after all.
"Good...", she kept on muttering to herself as the corrosive saliva kept dripping out of her mouth. "I will let you take those trinkets and in turn, you shall do as you are supposed to." Her head rose up towards the night sky, a movement that possibly required great effort on her part, and Night's eyes followed.
"Others may think it's a simple thing but every piece gathered hides its history. Nothing is without meaning." The great dragon lowered her head once again, letting it almost hit the ground with uncontrolled force. Her glowing eyes looked around for Rhodonite.
"I expect great things of you, my child... The shadows that imbue will help you find endless inspiration." The newfound darkness of the pearl whirled around as if alive.
Night didn't quite know, yet felt like she knew, like she understood what was she to do. And to do her part, she has to leave the Tangled Wood and venture into the open world.


Traveling from the Tangled Wood to the Viridian Labryinth was the natural next choice, and Rhodonite fell in with a few other travelers making the same journey. With one of them, a fellow Pearlcatcher female, she found her way to the very center of the Nature realm, the Behemoth, and they found their way to a small village of treehouses linked by bridges and beams. There was an inn, run by a vibrant coatl, and with spaces large enough to house Imperials, there was plenty of room for a pair of Pearlcatchers.

The two had only been thrown together by circumstance, and they went their own ways soon after; Celeste departed well before Nite was ready to. Nite, in fact, had been immediately drawn to the armored Imperial who guarded the large entrance to a structure built up against the Behemoth's trunk; he was reluctant to make conversation while he was on duty, but he agreed to meet with her once his shift was done, and soon he and Nite were meeting regularly.

And eventually they were sharing a nest - by the size, they could guess their hatchlings to be Pearlcatchers like Nite herself. All three of their young ones inherited their father's markings, though the youngest daughter, Topaz, also developed opalescent, stony patches like Nite, in a warm golden color. Zalitz was still reserved, though he was affectionate when they were alone, and he proved to be a warm and loving father. As their children grew, Nite prepared jewelry for each of them to remember her by, already looking to the day when she'd depart.
