From the moment she opened her eyes, she was thrust into the world of nobility. After all, she was born to noble parents, one of the many heads of the Astral Houses. The glimmering starry patterns across her skin and the telltale gleam of shining filigree made it clear: she was of noble blood.
Many things were expected of her. From day one she was taught to hold her head high, to walk in a certain way, to never be rude or snap back as uncivilised dragons were wont to do. It was tiring, granted, but what choice did she have? A noble must live the life, walk the walk, could give nothing less of what was expected of them.
“You are a pureblood noble. Do not disappoint us. Your actions reflect the actions of the entire house, and as such, you must uphold our reputation with everything you do.”
Everything had to be maintained perfectly at all times, save for when she was alone. All the way from the head to claw tips, each part of her was made to shine with the brightness of a polished gemstone. What they never saw, however, was the pressure it took to forge her into who she was, the flames that had molded and shaped her into epitome of grace and elegance as befitting a noble of her class. No, all they saw were the pretty smiles, the graceful courtesy and ease with with she carried herself.
She would not cry. That much was assured. She could not afford to. For the sake of her house and for the sake of maintaining perfect appearances, she would push on and strive to become the next Scion to carry her family name to the next generation. From birth to adolescence to marriage, her life was mapped out from the very beginning. It wasn't necessarily a bad life, it was simply what fate had chosen for her, a path she had accepted long ago. Whether she would be able to stray from that rigid path and find her own true happiness was another matter best saved for the future. Perhaps one day she would break free, one day she would spread her wings and change everything. Perhaps in some distant alternate dimension, another her was doing exactly that.
But for now, it was back to her lessons…
With a gentle nudge of her claw, the diary she had been writing in snapped shut. There was little time to waste with idle fantasies, too many things to remember, but what could she do about it?
After all, she was descended from the house of Twilight Nobility.
