They sit hunched over a desk, illuminated by scented candles and the moonlight spilling through the windows, writing like their life depends on it. Their name is signed with a flourish and adorned with scribbled hearts. The letter is sealed with wax and a kiss, then slid into an envelope adorned with pressed flowers. It is bound with a ribbon of red string, so the messenger birds know it should be handled with care. Little did they know it would never be received.
