Catrinna was three years old when her friend, Annie, passed away. She was too young to understand what was going and or why the adult dragons were absolutely terrified. When she was older, her parents told Catrinna that she had ran to the nearby river and screamed to the world that it's not her friend who was being buried. She barely remembers her childhood now. Once Catrinna walked just a bit too far away from home, deep into the woods. She heard soft whispers and sweet murmurs, something egged her on to go deeper and deeper. The forest got thicker and more quiet and soon Catrinna realized the birds weren't singing. She heard a quiet purring in the distance and, enchanted by its call, kept pushing on. When Catrinna entered a clearing, she realized what was calling her. An Emperor, half formed, half alive, breathing heavily. Among the writhing corpses she saw a familiar face, or so she thought. Small, whimpering, terrified - it called out her name. All Catrinna remembers is a blur, a rush of emotions and adrenaline. She ran like she had never ran before, she felt rumbling and trees falling behind her, the soft murmur now a blood chilling roar. She ran and ran, instinct guiding her back to the village. The Emperor ravaged her village and many died that day. Her father went missing without a trace, they never found his body. Many candles were lit to mourn the dead. When Catrinna announced her wish to become a Paladin of Light, her mother cried. She begged Catrinna to change her mind but she was determined. Catrinna went away to the Beacon to study the ways of the paladin. She spent many months training and studying, her mentors sent her through trials of mind and body. As a final task she had to destroy an Emperor head with her bare hands, a task almost too much for Catrinna but she persevered. The smell of Emperor blood still sends a chill down her spine today. With a blessing from the Lightweaver, Catrinna became a proper paladin and thus started her quest to defeat Emperors. Her ambitions were high but little did she know that her destiny would be to unravel a deep mystery, a mystery that started with the visit of a desperate priestess... |
