Biography
Ability: Crystallize | Can crystallize his blood-- either creating combat scythes through intentional injuries, or sealing off grievous wounds on his body. The latter increases his armor, but can impede his movement if used to seal points of flexibility
A Revenant of Unsol, Maelgad works under Noctis to help maintain order throughout the city. While Harrow is mostly stationed in the fortress, Maelgad is a brute tasked with patrolling Unsol's streets. He was assigned so due to his intimidating and lumbersome appearance, as a way to ward off crime.
Maelgad is a bit daft; he rarely talks, and the reasoning behind his actions aren't usually well thought out. Of course, it doesn't take critical thinking skills to knock a few rowdy nuisances through a wall.
He finds talk tiring. The less of it he must do, the better. If one causes enough trouble, forcing him to use more than a few sentences-- the worse.
If not the towering shadow, another indicator of his arrival to precede him is the grit of ice. As slow moving as he seems, Maelgad is usually teeming with unspent energy. This can make him antsy, and a bit hair-trigger. Chewing slabs of ice between his fangs is a habit that relieves this to an extent.
Like the other Revenants, Maelgad is gifted with a specialty given his portion of Unsol's power. He can freeze and harden blood into scythes, useful for battle. Polished slabs of sanguine crystal stand as testaments to his ferocity. Otherwise fatal wounds, he has kept himself together by freezing his bloodiest injuries permanently shut. The more those wish to oppose him, the more hardened and armored he becomes. His durability in the face of physical overstrain is both fearsome and respectable, in this context.
While he can never recall a time he has made himself open about his struggles or thoughts, he harbors one deep fear. He is othered within Unsol, viewed as a golem as soulless as those who had lost theirs to the city. He hears their whispers, whenever a new glassy surface appears on his body. How much more fighting can he take, before he becomes a crystallized statue? His joints unmoving and hardened into place. He toils with nightmares in which he is overcome completely with these hardened wounds, before ultimately he shatters like porcelain.
