━━━━━◇━━━━━
All sapient beings seek out knowledge. On the most basic of levels, such an instinct directly serves the purpose of survival; being able to learn and remember signs of danger would serve any animal well. Dragons, of course, of all creatures, would likely consider themselves the cleverest, most knowledge-driven species — and that, they may very well be. Yet, as too few of them have come to realize, forgetting the purpose learning in favor of searching past the danger point for new power and information is... a dark path to walk. One need not look further than the example of a dragon such as Prometheus to discover this.

Prometheus — a quiet creature, but one who lacks nothing in intensity. With the help of his apprentices, Talia and Nicodemia, he dedicates the entirety of his focus to pursuing the kind of knowledge that hides away in crypts, in tombs, in sacred shrines to the dead. Only by taking objects directly connected to those who have died, he believes, can their fates be reversed. Usually, though, he dispatches his apprentices to fetch the materials he needs; in fact, he is rarely sighted outside of his workroom at all, let alone gathering supplies for himself. He spares only the words that he must impart to others, and otherwise cares not at all for conversation. He has also hidden his face away for years, to the point where none of the other necromancers can recall what it looks like. In truth, it's doubtful even he can — after all, it no longer belongs to him. The last time he desecrated a grave, stealing dusty remains out of an urn whose soul remained bound to it, the angry spirit decided to exact revenge. |

The result? Well, Prometheus... his face is not. It doesn't exist. His neck terminates in an abyssal void; the mask is there to protect others from such a horror. His body now continuously rots away, molding to the point that fungi flourish across his flesh. As for his soul, well, it hangs halfway out of his body, forming wispy tendrils that float across his wings. Undead he may be, but his state lies far from the ideal second life the necromancers seek. Certainly he tried, at first, to restore his body to health with various alchemical solutions, herbs and bones and his precious augmented morganite. None of it worked. His state had been sealed by the ghost whose remains he violated. Now, resigned to his incomplete undeath, Prometheus has resolved not to waste any more materials on himself. The work he does, he dedicates to saving the others — especially his secretly-beloved apprentices — before the same fate befalls them.
