Biography
"Hello, gentle soul..."
The guardian pulls the corners of his maw into a warm smile as he opens his eyes.
"Are you here to tell me of the new lives of past clan members?"
He lifts his head, his faceted eyes shimmering in the candlelight, but doesn't seem to quite look at you.
Perhaps he's blind?
"My name is Jaquas."
"I archive the happy lives of clan members who once resided here."
"Life is precious, and those who choose to live it to the fullest often have the best stories to tell."
"So, stranger..."
Jaquas crosses one paw over the other, breathing a hefty sigh as he gets more comfortable.
"What stories do you have for me?"
To his surprise, Jaquas awoke days later, having been found by a hunting party of a light clan. Exhausted, aching, and filled with shame over his failure, Jaquas remained quiet, only accepting aid given to him out of respect. However, over time, Jaquas listened to the stories told by elderly dragons and travelers, he listened to the playful sounds of hatchlings and their joy-filled voices. Jaquas lifted his head, savoring the sounds and stories, it was then that he realized his new purpose; his charge was not to the Tidelord but to the precious gift of life and what invaluable moments it gifts dragons with. With renewed purpose, Jaquas followed his saviors home to his new clan and began work on accumulating his new charge; hatchlings and the wonderful bright lives they and other dragons have had.
You inquire about Jaquas's archives.
He lifts his head surprisingly quick for a weary looking guardian such as himself.
His fins fanning out in what appears to be a joyful excitement.
"I'm happy to share my charge with you!" he bellows with glee.
The bulky guardian grabs a collection of scrolls, gingerly unfurling them in front of you.
Hand-made drawings of a wide variety of dragons is seen on each scroll.
"Here are the hatchlings I check on to this day."
His soft voice echoes in his softly lit den.
"Are you here to inform me of someone I have missed?"
He tilts his head, the frills around his cheeks shuddering with interest.

History
A mighty guardian since birth, Jaquas followed in the footsteps of many guardians just like him. Spending many of his early years hunting and training, Jaquas was set to grow into a mighty guardian who was to be capable of protecting any charge he chose with relative ease. Jaquas's might was so impressive that many thought he was to serve under the Tidelord as a formidable guardian, capable of tackling even some of the most menacing threats. However, as Jaquas continued his training, his drive to improve being fueled by the words of others stating that he was a perfect fit to serve the Tidelord, Jaquas's high-held head slowly began to sink as years went by. This thought did not settle well with him. However, his talents were sure to be best on the front lines. A life serving his deity would be a life most honorable, or so he always heard.
|
On one fateful stormy night as Jaquas was returning from a battle at sea in Redrock Cove, a Deeprealm Hunter lept from the water below, dragging Jaquas down into the churning ocean and into a battle for his life. Jaquas fought as hard as he could but by the time the battle was over, the hunter escaped after dealing serious damage, a nasty bite to Jaquas's face left him almost fully blind. Exhausted, disoriented by churning waves, and newly blinded, Jaquas gave in to the darkness, believing that if he could not protect himself in the toughest conditions, there was no way he could be among the Tidelord's elite.
