Biography

Fichittvur Dungeonkeep
"Dusky Rose" pair

an index of dragon body language
banescale
squawking and clumsily flapping away to a nearby perch like a startled chicken-surprise, mild pain, !!!!, attacked

bogsneak
lashing tail-irritation, angry, anxious, bogsneaks are generally hard wired to respond to anxiety by attempting to scare the cause away by attacking them so many of their anxiety and irritation responses double as aggression signals
flaring neck fins-shock, surprise, fearful and responding with threat display to try to preemptively discourage attackers as is normal for bogsneaks
running forwards bellowing like a crocodile with neck stretched out even if it's a larger dragon and even if they fall over themselves in surprise trying to back up-what are you doing in my swamp
sinking into the ground and sticking eyes lazily above their chosen pit-relaxation, laziness
sinking into the ground but lifting head up-relaxed but something has their partial attention
slow eye contact with sluggish movements-condescending disinterest, i'd challenge you but you're not worth it
sluggish movements with no eye contact seemingly ignoring you-i accept and perhaps enjoy your presence
compressed fans and pulling head down back and forth to the sides to avoid eye contact-submission
fans alternating puffing and shaking slightly while speaking-adding emphasis to certain words
standing still while fans slowly puff out a little-confusion, what am i looking at, slow building fear
fans flicking-mild irritation
flicking tongue-investigating, reassessing, distrust, periodically scanning for possible nearby interruptions to swamp lounging territory
bogsneaks have very little obvious non-threat body language because they are naturally asocial and when the form clans it tens to be a loose conglomeration of widely-spaced individuals who only come together to negotiate hunting rights and loosely share their territory because each individual member begrudgingly admits their survival chances are better if they all cooperate to coordinate their hunting and patrolling of the combined territory

coatl
mindlessly coiling tail around things nearby where they stand-afraid, imminent worry, seeking stability by holding on to something
coatl do not have much in the way of threatening body language, signalling their intent to attack would be disadvantageous for their strategy of taking advantage of surprise if appeasement doesn't work
flaring neck crests-courtship display

fae
head fins only

gaoler
angling head down to point antlers forwards and waving head back and forth-

guardian
sticking neck straight up and sniffing the air-alert, worry, checking around the area for anything coming
tensing up limbs and angling them to the sides to display hard fins more clearly and rhythmically stamping both front limbs hard every few seconds while growling loudly if the threat continues to approach-
direct eye contact-challenging, asserting dcominance, can be a playful thing
guardians naturally respond to fight or flight stress with protective fight aggression instincts because of charges
guardians a from water and body language reflects this

imperial
flicking whiskers and twitching nose-unconscious tic, lightly investigatng new person thing or conversation partner, sometimes mild irritation
rotating ears around-

mirror

nocturne
nocturnes do not have their own body language beyond preferring to clamber on the ceiling and tree branches rather than touch the ground and hang upside down from their tails wrapped in their wings, they may reach their little feat out to grab thing like bat feet but it's mainly for climbing, and they walk on their wings and sniff the air frequently, jerking their heads around stiffly like frozen alerted chickens and flapping like bats when attacked and scared. nocturne body language is a mishmash of other dragon they have been exposed to where their physiology permits. they flare their neck frills in irritation, dominance, fear, shocked/startled, and territorial warning aggression. they sniff like small bats.

pearlcatcher
curling neck back and head forwards like a crane or something and pulling tail around frontaroudn the pearl with partially folded tense wings sticking up in a slightly folded m shape and standing up taller and straighter andm ore tense off the ground with their legs under them while stepping walking retreating several feet backwards quickly and almost like a can and peeling lips back from the protruding front of the jaw similar to an angry ape, like they're simultaneously trying to put on a threat display while backing away from you to safely engage in their natural behavior of fleeing once they're sure the predator is sufficiently put off by their display to not immediately follow-
miming a spitting motion repeatedly like a llama combined with a cat-
horselike body language
rotating ears around-

ridgeback
tensing up and vibrating rattling spines-threat display, i'm dangerous, frustration, stress, don't touch me, sometimes combined with involuntary hiss, this is an instinctive stress response partly because it can also relieve stress by helping to dislodge molting spines, which can often cause the stress in the first place
"nodding" snout side to side as if attempting to fence with nose, advancing forwards with pointed threatening jabbing steps clearly meant to drive the target back-threat display, challenge, i hate you, don't mess with me, angry at a person, are you questioning MY lemon tarts at the bake-off?
nodding and rearing up attempting to position their chest against another dragon's chest and push and scrabble-dominance fighting opponent of equal size, roughly equivalent to two guys who hate eachother meeting eachother in a parking lot and being like BRO WE SETTLE THIS RIGHT HERE YOU WANT A PIECE OF THIS, not inherently a mortal battle but can escalate if the participants get angry enough, derived from male mating rights dominance battle instincts like deer
scraping at the ground with forelimbs-nerves, stressed, threat is stronger than me, afraid, instinctively seeking a safe place to hide
rolling in loose substrate-sandbathing, unstressed enough to engage in self grooming behaviors
tail curling-excited, bored
head bobbing-excited, playful, likea challenge threat but not serious
soaring down over something and swiping low with their thumb claws-harassing something form the air, hunting for fish
poking someone or something gently with nose-broody, protective, nurturing instinct, parental worry, worry for companion's health, protective "aww it's so cute" affection
gently gnawing on spines and loose scales-affection, attempting to groom by removing loose spines, the scraping of teeth and saliva also helps relieve itching from spine growth
standing over smaller individual and gathering them up under their belly with wings curled aroudnd the sides-shielding, parental, attempting to protect often from the sun
swiping out quickly with single forelimb thumb claws punctuated with a snarl and a sort of jerk back motion centered around the muscles of the shoulders-non-dominance aggression, you didn't take my warning and you got too close to me while i was mad
laying on the ground in the sun-comfortable, unconcerned, absorbing sunlight to wake up after a cold night, conserving energy
trying to position themselves on the ground under a larger opponent's belly and then trying to make them fall or trying to shove head and back underneath them-genuinely trying to kill you through impalement
kicking up sand throwing it behind them with single scratching backwards-kicking limb motions-bored and uncertain, stress without aggression, restlessness
sitting on haunches-partially alert
digging outright-extreme boredom or extreme fear and inability to fight or flee, extreme irritation at the weather
sniffing around companions rooting with nose for any hidden sources of food and nipping at them-sustenance related survival stress, instinctively miming borrowing
lowering stance on legs to be held closer to the ground and looking up with spines rustling upwards slightly from the motion, almost questioningly, then standing back up with neck held up rail straight looking directly at the target with expressionless open eyes, almost like a bounce, repeating this motion until the individuals are familiarized and their intentions are made clear-questioning, animalistic "you are a new stranger i don't recognize, are you going to attack me or can we socialize?" mild uncertainly submissive gesture, "i do not necessarily want to fight you and i am curious of your intentions", effectively a shrug combined with a ? and a stranger greeting, can also be a gesture of pure curiosity towards anything
burying self in sand with spines sticking out-ambush, hiding but leaving room to get the first hit in if a fight approaches them, a stressed ridgeback that buries themselves in the sand with their spines out will feel more secure
loud highpitched single echoing bark of a noise like a rubber balloon making a creaking sound as it's rubbed but if it was a roar, like "... mhrrrruuuOH!" combined with neck sticking straight up and a slight hop of the front half of the body-i'm here look at me pay attention to me over here
shaking head in a twisting fashion once-there's something physical mildly irritating me like a fly buzzing in my ear
snort-sick, disgust
pacing in circles warbling high pitched and eventually lying down on back or side-sadness
standing up and beating wings to move backwards while waving head back and forth in the air making a sharp shrieking sound and kicking up sand in front of them with their back legs-!!!! fear, sudden terror and retreat from an unexpected threat, sudden pain, reaction to attack or injury the noise is a warning to nearby clan members
sticking neck straight up and sniffing the air-alert, checking around the area for anything coming

skydancer
twitching snout away and flicking side with snout as if to quickly adjust or spotclean feathers-absentminded dismissive handwave under slight stress with no eye contact, almost equivalent to someone waving you off slightly and making a subtly stressed response to your statement while checking something strapped to their arm, like "we'll have to get to that when we come to it"
chittering-

snapper
stamping-
laying down on belly-defensive, instinctively anticipating fight
chattering beak-i can bite your arm off don't test me, generalized irritation, signalling having spotted a threat on the road
lunging snapping beak forwards-actively trying to bite your arm off for provoking their aggression
beating stone ground with tail-

spiral
curling around things and holding on-stress, boredom, in need of stability
gathering their body up in a tense hump like a cat or ferret ready to spring-actively preparing to flee at great speed from an imminent threat
