Soraya hatched alone and unwanted on the wastelands of crystals. She was taken in and raised by a clan that she never really felt connected to - still, they taught her that logic overruled emotion, that magic was the source of her power, and how to control her Visions (to an extent). Meeting Murdock was Seen, as was her forming her clan of Starmages.
Her relationship with Murdock is one of necessity, but she supposes that she could learn to love him one day. They have the same goal - a great clan - but she often wonders about Murdock's ambition. Despite his own lack of magical prowess, he seems drawn to the Celestial Templars sworn to protect the Starmages, and Soraya often wonders if she'll lose him to their ranks.
Soraya is a creature of logic, not emotion, and as such, she tends not to ascribe to emotion more than she has to. She doesn't understand the feelings that she has for Murdock, she doesn't understand her attachment to her hatchlings. Instead, she throws herself into her work and ignores all feelings that start to blossom, squashing them before they have the chance to bloom. Even though she may one day love Murdock, she doesn't really know what love is.
