Razelan's earliest memory is that of the smell of old parchment and the quiet scratching noise of a quill against paper. He is almost sure he was nested and hatched in a library, hidden between torn and tattered manuscripts. If you found his parents and inquired about these claims, they would take great offence that you would assume their nesting methods were this unorthodox. In reality Razelan grew up plain and normal like any other dragon. He was told to seek the truth and knowledge from a young age and so he did, becoming enamoured with forbidden spells and the allure of the dark arts. He quickly became an outcast among his peers and a headache for his tutors. Only one dragon among his peers respected Razelan - Faust, a mage apprentice who wanted to become a bard. The two enjoyed a friendly rivalry with odd songs and even odder spells. Razelan was an excellent student - he was always two steps ahead of everyone else, sometimes even outsmarting his teachers, only Faust could keep up with Razelan's theories and spellbinding. He was not a fighter, however, and completely depended on his spellbook. Razelan would rather perish than let his book or quill be damaged. He learned many defensive spells that could dispel the magic of others and protect himself from harm. He tried to mimic Faust's melodies but could not match his musical talent and understanding of harmonies. Razelan was approached by the Paladins of Light but refused - he could not stand the suffocating atmosphere of a school, becoming a knight would be a living nightmare. He went his own way, seeking new knowledge and trading spells with other clans. On his travels he met Mondo, a wounded coatl who, despite being unable to fly, wanted to finish his training and become a paladin. Razelan humoured his wishes and the two travelled together, seeking a way to remedy Mondo's broken wings. They did not find a special healing spell, but they did find a lone nocturne wandering the Earthshaker's domain - Romeo. At the request of Romeo, Razelan turned him into a coatl and the three now travel together. Razelan is not sure what his end goal is, he sleeps little and spends most of his time in solitude, writing in his tome. |
