Dear reader,
I wish I could tell you that I care.

Maybe I should be a little more specific. I wish I could tell you that I cared about flying. Yea, yea – I’m a dragon. You don’t have to tell me twice. Seriously, I have wings. I get it. I’ve lived with it. You’re probably calling me crazy right now; probably thinkin’ that if you were in my position you’d be fluttering about all the time. Well, you probably would. Wings are cool, I guess.

But to be completely honest with you, reader? I really don’t like flying. It’s a nuisance. Everyone expects you to fly over here and fly over there. Why do dragons have legs if we can’t take a long stroll through the woods to our neighbor’s lair? I don’t understand. I like walking. It’s refreshing. No one’s screaming “WATCH OUT!” or “BRUH DO YOU EVEN FLY?!!” at you while you’re walking. The number of ill-mannered flyers I’ve bumped into? Yea. Too many to count.

But to be fair, I guess I’m a horrible flyer or something. I’ve never been able to flap about with any grace or style. I’m not like one of those Spirals, ya know? Noodling about in the clouds with not a care in the world. Even Snappers can take to the air with less blunders than I can – and their wings are like half the size of their body. How does that even work? Doesn’t matter. Flying doesn’t matter. Just because you’re a dragon doesn’t mean you have to like flying.

I prefer walking. Weird, huh? I know. I’ve been told that countless times too. I’ve tried the whole flyin’ thing, I swear! It’s not for me. I prefer the soothing cadence of footsteps and the soft rustling of the tree canopy above. Give me a dirt path and clay in my claws over the unending sky any day. You can find so many cool nooks and crannies while taking a brisk stroll through the woods! You can’t find any nooks and crannies in the sky, lemme tell ya.

It’s probably why I spend so much time hanging out with Psywurms, Kelpies, and the like. I mean, maybe ‘hanging out’ isn’t quite the right term – we’re usually getting into pretty gnarly battles – but it’s still better than plummeting through the clouds. I feel like I can actually do something down here, ya know? Helps me find my inner peace.

Anyway, guess what I’m trying to say is find something that fulfills you. Don’t listen to all those haters tellin’ you that just because you have wings you gotta fly everywhere. If you find something else you’re good at, go for it. Live for yourself, reader. I feel the most in tune with myself and the world while strolling through the woods, listening to all the critters chattering about their day and the wind whistling through the leaves above. Find something that speaks to you, that you’re good at. No use trying to please everyone else but yourself. Flying ain’t all that anyhow.
