Biography
WRAITH THE ONYX MOON Firstborn "Do not falter. The darkest hour is merely the hour before the tide turns." |
There are none more resolute than Wraith, the first of the Firstborn. A 'minor' God of the Void, he embodies the deep Dark of it, the shroud that covers the moon and drowns out all the stars. In this he is a stoic, measured drake; he has the air of a stalking predator, deliberate and deadly. Banshee may be called Godhunter, but Wraith is so often her companion and equal; she dances in the spotlight as he keeps to the shadows, acting quietly and unobtrusively in the name of his God. As the Onyx Moon, he is his God's right hand, the outstretched teeth, loyal to the last. Wraith is not just a pretty name, either; like his namesake, he can kill with a mere touch, devouring one's shadow and - or so they whisper when the Firstborn aren't around - their soul with it. Combine that with an unmatched skill with a sword and abilities that can drown out even the Shadowbinder's domain, and his knightly figure is often a terror to behold. Enemies of the Syzygy beware: the darkness has teeth and claws, and Wraith may be slow to anger... But he is equally slow to forget those who have slighted him and his own. But as stern as he may seem, even cold, Wraith is not an unfeeling creature. He cares in his own, quiet way, with a few private words of encouragement or a cup of hot cocoa to keep troublesome thoughts away. When roused, he can even give quite the speech, rallying his fellows with a leader's practiced oration; Wraith may stay out of the limelight when he can help it, but he is a natural leader, even among the Firstborn. In the end, Wraith is the first sentinel and the last grim line of hope, a true knight at his core. Where others falter, he will lead the way. And when he falters, Banshee will be at his side; she is one of the few who can make him unwind, even enough to goof off with her. Even the target of her pranks, she can pull laughs out of him where others cannot. But despite all his devoutness and sense of duty, the red neckerchief he wears tells of a past older than even he can remember. He was someone - something - else before he was a Firstborn. While the others remember their past lives, made their choices to cut ties and become something more, the memories of the creature that came before the First, the Onyx Moon, are tatters on the wind. He knows he fell fighting a great horror. He knows someone begged Shadow to help him, and that this godhood saved him. But he cannot remember the man who sacrificed their friendship and this neckerchief, just to keep him alive. Wraith's true form is not an Imperial; if you watch him too long, the edges bleed, the image blurs, and you can catch a glimpse of the monstrous form beneath. It's smaller than Banshee's form, and yet- And yet it seems all the more horrifying for the glimpses caught, a thing of darkness and terror that should not exist. Perhaps there's a reason Wraith so often wears a mask... |
