Even the netting feels like lead on his shoulders, and he can never escape the rippling glow of the Water rune on his brow.
Sxaltilo stares wistfully at the Lightning dragons, idly tracing the circuit pattern on his shoulder with the tip of his tail. He can feel the circuits running softly at the edge of his conscious, just as they always have, pulsing in time with some great force he has never quite been able to explain. His only child born with the patterning never seemed to feel it the same way he did, never seemed to feel the magic and wonder and the life of the circuits, and anyways, she's gone now, busy elsewhere. Maybe the Lightning dragons would have understood, but it is too late now.
Now he is the Water Mage, the Water Elemental Guard, the only representative of Water in this clan. There is no place for him in the world of mechanics and electricity and magic.
The sash pulls at his body, tugging him under like the Thousand Currents of his homeland. He is Water. He will have to learn this.
