__________________________________ Night of the Nocturne has always been the eeriest time of year. No sounds can be trusted and every shadow is a lie. The terrors of the Tangled Wood stampede from the darkness, leathery wings blotting out the sparkling moon. As a hatchling who got separated from his parents, Gronch was not aware of these particular dangers. He wasn't even aware that Night of the Nocturne - or Nocturnes in general - even existed. Gladekeeper's territory is one of the first to be invaded due to it being on the border of Shadowbinder's forest. He learned very quickly in his first year that it was not the place to be during that time of year. That first night of terror is one he will never forget. Not only were the Nocturnes scary by themselves, but many normally inanimate objects had seemingly come alive overnight with malicious grins and massive claws. The first creatures to chase him looked like chairs with ravenous growls. His vision - blurred with tears and fear - failed him in the darkness as he was herded onto the river bank. A swooping Nocturne collided into him, pushing him into the river and sealing his fate. |

____________________________________ Gronch was swept onto a beach of the Earthshaker's territory, but this did not save him from being harassed by the cackling creatures that had followed him on his terrifying ride down the river. He had thought that perhaps the village he could see in the distance would be able to help him. He was wrong. |

Every door he frantically clawed against did not open. Occasionally he would spy a set of terrified eyes through a window - yet no help came. A valuable lesson was learned that night. Every dragon only cared for themselves. They did not care at all for a terrified hatchling left to the fiends of the week. Gronch made a promise to himself that night whilst hiding in a discarded wooden barrel with tears staining his cheeks. He would make everyone pay. ________________________________________________ |
