STORY
Somewhere in the thieves’ den is a lair completely filled with plushies. Stuffed creatures of every color, shape, and size fill the corners. Towers of toy bears, farm animals, and kittens threaten to topple over, held up only by more stacks of turtles, frogs, and puppies– any animal a dragon could possibly imagine is here. The lair belongs to Amias, known to many as Pastel. He’s a quirky one, to put it lightly. He often laughs his way through the shadows, giggling as he works his way through swaths of guards or sets off explosives to clear a back alley. ‘Unhinged’ is his most prevalent descriptor. His bubbly, sweet exterior conceals a fighter’s spirit. It would be unwise to cross Amias. He has the tendency to slit throats first and ask questions later. Of course, he’d never harm a member of his clan. He loves the other dragons dearly, even if they do find him a bit odd. The colorful Spiral’s charms outweigh his pitfalls, making him a much adored member of Zack’s gang.
Pastel does not sew plushies for hatchlings. Every artfully decorated piece, each covered in fur, buttons, and ribbon, is for him and him alone. If a young dragon so much as touches one of his beloved stuffies, said dragon gets quite an earful from Amias. He’s not particularly fond of youngsters, which is a tad unexpected considering his more youthful tendencies. Hatchlings with street smarts know to avoid Pastel at all costs, or appease him by bringing him shiny treasures. He adores precious stones, glimmering jewelry, and interesting trinkets– anything that might look good on a fuschia sheep or a burgundy bunny rabbit. He cleverly stitches the jewels he finds into his plushies, making their physical worth match their sentimental value. If it looks like that velvet crocodile has eyes made from emeralds, that’s because it does. Amias spares no expense when it comes to crafting his precious toys. They are his pride and joy. Pain will come upon anyone who tries to take them away from him.
Besides enjoying plushies and disliking children, Amias spends much of his time running around with Finn. Pastel and Frostbite make quite the dynamic duo. The former skips around merrily, making jokes and babbling nonsense, while the latter rolls his eyes and waits for his friend to shut up. Many are puzzled by their amicable companionship. How did the noisiest dragon in the lair befriend someone so sullen and withdrawn? The answer lies in the story of the diamond button. This was the day Amias found his favorite jewel and saved Finn’s life. To make a long story much shorter, Finn had attempted to steal a diamond button from a guard’s purse. This was an extremely high-profile crime. Frosty got caught and was on his way to a prison cell– or worse– when an enormous explosion wracked the town square. The guards let go of Finn in their panic and the icy Spiral escaped. On his way out, he noticed Amias chuckling from the rooftops. He had caused the explosion and rescued Finn from a terrible fate. Since that day, the two of them have been inseparable. They relish in each other’s company and the chaos they produce. Pastel knows that his companion Frosty does not have very many friends. He considers himself lucky to be one of the chosen few. To show his affection, he’s sewing a plushie in Finn’s likeness. He’s using some of his most treasured shinies to decorate. Frosty’s going to love it! He’ll pretend to be grumpy at first, but Pastel is sure that he’ll end up cuddling with the stuffed toy each night.
Finn and Amias, Pastel and Frostbite. They take the kingdom by storm, stealing from loyalty to their hearts’ content. The balance they achieve in their odd friendship is nigh incomparable. Amias is grateful for his steadfast sidekick. Or… perhaps Amias is the sidekick? He’s not quite sure. Either way, their partnership has led them to many risky shenanigans. Pastel’s favorite story is the one where he and Finn initially intended to snatch a necklace from a passing loyal’s neck and instead ended up setting said loyal’s behind on fire. Pastel was somewhat responsible for the mishap and received a solid scolding from Finn once the necklace was successfully snatched. Besides plushies, overly-extravagant heists are Amias’ forte. Did they need the fire? No. Was it fun? Absolutely. Merriment and silliness are two of the major driving forces in Pastel’s life. He refuses to let go of his desire for absurdity. Perhaps some of his more stoic clanmates could learn something from his effervescent joie-de-vivre.
