» Ophelia is the Mother Goddess and Creator, and is highly regarded as one of the most important deities. She reigns over the earth, nature, and femininity. » Although she is a commonly revered Goddess among all mortals, she holds an especially prominent position in the religions of witches and fair folk. » She is the fraternal twin of Othello, and holds a special bond with the Woodsy God. In art and literature, the two are often depicted as two parts of the same being, or as two entities that live intertwined with one another. » Ophelia and Othello are always prayed to as a pair; those who offer thanks to only one twin are said to receive bad luck. » She is both benevolent, playful, and fierce in nature, and is often seen as a guide and protector of women and mothers. Those who do harm to women and children are thought to be directly punished by the Goddess. » Ophelia was once the wife of Rhistlin, and is still thought to be by mortals, but they have not actually been a couple for a few hundred years. Although they are apart, the two still harbour some attachment towards each other, which has led to some bittersweet feelings. » She left her husband not because she did not still love him, but rather, because Ophelia has always been a carefree spirit. Her and Rhistlin's marriage had been a spur of the moment thing when they, and the earth alike, were still very young. And as they grew older she realised that she could not live tied down to one person for all eternity, she wanted to be free and spend her time dancing with faeries and other ethereal spirits. Sit within her brother's forests and watch the tree tops sway in the breeze. This she told to Rhistlin, and he set her free, because he could not bare to see her unhappy. |
