Personality
Empty / Somber / Confused / Reflective
Somnium is not always mentally sound. He either does not care or does not have an opinion or preference, seemingly aloof at his best and callous at his worst. His facial features remain expressionless and void of most feelings, making it difficult to read him. Even the simple task of gaining his attention or acknowledgement can be strenuous.
Ironically, he was very emotional as a child- frightened and often sad about his own heritage. He was born from the same clutch as Hallow and Corus, both abominable reapers in their own right, but Somnium himself did not inherit anything from their parents. Nightcallers feed on weakness, and with siblings like vultures, Somnium grew to be as apathetic as he is in order to better protect himself. He will never again be the weak link of his family. He rarely socializes, instead he focused on crafting his poisons. Though his family is quite large, Somnium finds it difficult to relate with his siblings. He isn't on good terms with any of them and finds himself begrudgingly loathing the majority of the other Nightcallers, especially the more bloodthirsty ones. Though Somnium would be none the wiser, he looks and acts much like his mother. He is immaculate with everything he does and values precision and cleanliness. When he chooses to pursue something, he does so savagely. |

Familiar
Falco the Animated Statue Mute / Steadfast / Cunning / Loyal
A strange onyx bird thought to have once belonged to the Raptorik, Falco is as mysterious as its master. Somnium was not the one who breathed life into the statue, but it came to him all the same. It seems to care deeply over Somnium's health and follows him around like a dutiful guard. Though quite serious, one must be weary, as Falco has a tendency to pretend to be a standstill statue on the gullible and unsuspecting.

Somnium does not fit into either factions of the Nightcall lineage, but he lives up to the family name and is surely just as terrifying as the rest of his brethren. The unique poison that he soaks in his claws causes a slow and painful death, and even the smallest scratch can be fatal if left untreated.
As a poison master, Somnium is long accustomed to reaping the lives of others, but he's privately terrified of his family because of this, and most of all- terrified of himself. He knows their line of work leans on the edge of morality, and sometimes he struggles to find a purpose in this death-dealing. He's scared of his own self because of just how easy every death comes to him, requiring little to no effort on his part, and he doesn't even need to think about ending a life; no hesitation, no feelings. Somnium finds himself questioning the Nightcall inheritance more often than not, wondering why it came to be this way.
Despite these misgivings, Somnium learned long ago to swallow his emotions down, even if he ached to escape his rightful place among the Nightcallers. He knew he couldn't disappoint his family or be seen as the weak link, but the constant fight with his own morality slowly began to manifest into his subconscious.
Somnium remembers the face of every one of his victims, and they come back to haunt him in his sleep.
His mind is so fractured from his own guilt that he stopped sleeping in a vain attempt to avoid his nightmares, but because of this, he is never fully awake, either. Most days his body runs on auto-pilot, going through the motions without ever being truly conscious of them. This lack of sleep did nothing for him other than make him perpetually exhausted and delirious, so much so that he began to see his ghosts in the waking world.
It's speculated that much of these hallucinations stem from his faceted eyes, which have been known to offer some form of sight gift to a Nightcaller- or in Somnium's case, a curse. However, no matter how much he sleeps or not, there is no cure from his walking apparitions. His eyes are fathomless and unblinking, staring off as if he lives between two worlds.

I think I saw you in my sleep, darling,
I think I saw you in my dreams
You were stitching up the seams
On every broken promise that your body couldn't keep.
I think I saw you in my sleep.
I think I saw you in my dreams
You were stitching up the seams
On every broken promise that your body couldn't keep.
I think I saw you in my sleep.
