-- LOCAL WINTER CRYPTID --
The day of his birth is one of the most cruel holidays celebrated by all of those who live in the shadowlands. A day of tricks, pranks, and feasts, a day of celebration! This applies to even those who live on the borders, where such a holiday is coupled with the plaguelands' inherent need to gorge themselves on more and more and more, the tricks and pranks can become downright malicious.
The young mirror was raised to know both that who eats first eats well, and that tricks were all for fun and games, but between the borders of plague and shadow, the two flight mottos mixed, and one would trick to eat the most. It was perhaps one of the cruelest areas to be raised in, with little trust in familial units and even less to outsiders. You had to survive first, and a slight of the claw is what would do it.
The borders also produced interesting coloration in any hatchlings. Red was a perfect color for plague, able to blend into the blisters and scars of the flesh-like plaguelands, green however, a cooler color, was more suited towards the hiding and sneaking of shadow-dwellers. The poor mirror didn't belong, which left him eating last, or eating at the wrong spot, getting a mouthful of bone or cartilage instead of meat.
During one of his failed hunts, he came across a storyteller from the water, telling him of ancient texts about a jolly red dragon with wings as green as pine (not that he knew what pine was), who spread cheer and gave gifts. Whether it was divine intervention by the plaguebringer, or just a dragon who saw a poor emaciated mirror, the dragon was fed and given shelter, and with a new lust for life to live out and live up to his colored namesake.
To live up to the dragon who had his colors.
Whose colors he shared (yes that sounds much cooler he'll remember that).
His travels have brought him to the nature realm, warm for winter, yet he's quite certain everyone is preparing for the season of gift-giving, and if they weren't aware of it, he'd be the one giving gifts!
He's very excited.
