Origins
Ark is your typical case of the first-generation dragon; born from a shadow egg to an utterly absent family, moved from his birth nest as soon as he could walk, traveled the lands before settling down. His story began in the Tangled Wood, where he hatched in an abandoned nest with no family to speak of. For the next week, he lived in fear of the dark, watching the shadows from his bramble nest and hoping he would survive. When he finally dared to exit his hovel, he almost immediately encountered a pack of mirrors that taunted and poked at him from afar. Not wanting to deal with them, Ark rushed from the Tangled Wood and began to stumble towards other lands, hoping to find sanctuary. He lost the trickster mirrors by the time he entered the Sunbeam Ruins, skirting the Sea of a Thousand Currents and entering the bone dry deserts of the Shifting Expanse. There, he settled with a nomadic tribe and caught his breath, exploring some of the local trades beginning with bookmaking. Though not a scribe or writer, Ark was skilled with his paws and spent many long hours in his hovel cutting, coloring, burnishing, and binding leather book covers. He worked alongside a small, nameless fae from time to time, hunting through the desert for materials to use. Often, the pair would be out for a week to gather supplies before delving into their work for another week. On one of these trips, Ark discovered a veritable gold mine of geodes, immediately taking to the stones with utter fascination. As he moved away from production and into research, his fae friend suggested he move into a more research-oriented clan. With that in mind, Ark packed his few things and left, eventually stumbling upon the Galestorm Flyers and settling in their home. In the stone rich lair, Ark now spends his days researching the properties and uses of the rocks around him, feeling much more content in his life than with his days as a bookmaker.
Personality
Ark is a curious yet gentle soul, always thirsting for more information on whatever he is busy researching. Many days, Ark will wander around the lair and collect samples for analysis, sometimes even going to Akira to gather his samples. He will spend hours gathering, analyzing, and documenting the samples, sometimes forcing a clanmate to bring him dinner as he gets too wrapped up in his work and forgets to eat. This is not a coveted role, as many find Ark to be a minimally polite and standoffish dragon. This is mostly true, as Ark is often wrapped up in his own mind and work and he struggles to recall how pleasantries operate. Still, at heart, he is a kind dragon, though poor social skills leave him isolated from all but Akira. Ark finds no qualms with this--he never truly recovered from his isolated upbringing--though he has begun to venture out of his shell slowly. His first true attempt at friendship was with Akira, which many suspect will eventually develop into a romance. The two semi-recluses find kinship in each other, and the rest of the clan has seen how they dance around making their relationship something more. In fact, it has been observed that when Ark forgets Akira’s name like a true tundra, he will address Akira by “rose quartz” while his clanmates earn more common and less romantically inclined stone nicknames. No one knows why Ark replaces forgotten names with rock types and flirts with them as well, but no one wishes to stop him either; it is the one of his universally endearing trait with the clan.
Editor’s Note: I should clarify, the only reason Midnight chose to include the rock nickname factoid is that Ark calls him Black Opal, and he is quite proud of that. I am known as Amythest to Ark.
Sincerely yours, Orlena
