Noticeable is not the word one would use for Alben. Most eyes pass over him as if he isn't even there, which is an exceptional ability for one tasked with scouting and infiltration.

That isn't to say of course that he is manipulative or scheming. In fact transparency is a motto he seems to live by, both in presence and in his words. Alben is just as likely to openly admit his purpose for being there should he be caught, as he is to then somehow slip away as if he never existed in the first place.

Some say that this ability to disappear into the background is magical in nature, and those same people claim that they can't seem to recall when Alben became their ally.

origins.
Most of his childhood is a fog beyond vague flashes that could be memories of dreams for all he knows. His earliest known memory is of two figures standing over him in a dungeon. A man in an elegant mask and cloak, and a woman in scarred armor holding an ornate dagger. His reasons for being there are fuzzy, but he knows the two strange figures were the reason he escaped.

Waking up a few days later in an inn on the other side of the country, Alben was alone with only a pouch of gold, clothes that were plain and unassuming but clean, and a simple looking glass dagger with etched, golden markings on the handle. Upon leaving, the innkeeper presented him with some parting words.

"A dagger is a weapon for those willing to look their opponent dead in the eye and feel the weight of their death. It takes a man willing to be honest with his demons to use such a thing."

Though in hindsight he swears that he had never met the man before, he can't help but feel a tug of familiarity.

Since that day he's travelled from place to place, looking for someplace that feels like maybe it could be a home.
