Cahira is the most quiet out of the Guards of the Southwind Clan, usually one for letting others talk and have her actions speak for her. This has made many surprised that her best friend is the loud, feisty and clumsy Ephemeris. The two of them are childhood friends and Cahira just can't be without the Banescale. Even if her actions sometime drive her nuts. While Pearlcatchers are generally known for their cowardice and haughty behavior, this description doesn't suit Cahira in the slightest. While she's not the one who will rush into battle (that's Ephemeris' job) she studies her opponent closely before she chooses to strike. A strike at a vulnerable spot or a well-placed rune is often enough to enable someone else to finish the job so Cahira doesn't need to dirty her claws much. This doesn't mean that she has an issue with getting blood on her claws or that she's above doing her job. While she prefers to stay clean, she'd protect the Clan with her life and take every risk of getting blood and dirt on her beautiful scales. And may the Deities protect you if you actually manage to take down Ephemeris.

Cahira was born at the Observatory of the Starfall Isles after a short romance between a Pearlcatcher and a Skydancer. Neither of the parents wanted to keep the eggs and went their separate ways afterwards. Little Cahira was fortunate to be taken in by a Clan living in the area and grow up among them. One of the hatchlings she grew up with was a Banescale named Ephemeris. While they were very different, Cahira and Ephemeris quickly grow to become best friends. The hyperactive Banescale would often get into all kinds of mischief and Cahira was pulled along for the ride, often because Ephemeris lacked thumbs and Cahira could do things that the young Banescale couldn't. The Clan often didn't know what to do with the two of them but they were loved anyway.

As they grow older, Ephemeris grew restless of staying at the Observatory. She had no interest in what the Clan was doing there. Instead, she was more interested in becoming a great fighter and find a new Clan to protect as her new home. As Ephemeris didn't belong to the first new generation of Banescale that emerged once the ancient breed reappeared, she just held a curiosity for the world and no ill-will towards any race that had wronged her kind in the past. So she decided to set out into the world to find a new, more exciting place to protect and call home.

Cahira couldn't just let her leave on her own. While she masked it as "Someone needs to keep an eye on Ephemeris", she knew she would miss the Banescale too much and decided to follow her wherever she ended up. The two of them traveled around for some time as a result. But eventually they ended up in the Southern Icefields. Ephemeris had heard that this was the homeland of the "enemies of her kin" and of course she was curious to explore it.

They were allowed to take shelter at the lair of the Southwind Clan while they were passing through the Cloudscrape Crags. While they had intended to just stay there for a couple of nights before they moved on, Ephemeris found it way too entertaining to spar with the Captain of the Guard, Felicity, even if she lost more often than not. The Banescale became determined to become just as good as a fighter as the Mirror. The Southwind Clan didn't mind taking the two of them in and the two of them eventually became accepted as part of the Guard for their prowess in combat.

This wasn't what Cahira had expected but she found herself liking what suddenly became their new home. And Ephemeris was happy, that's all that matters to her.

Noticeable relationships:

Ephemeris is Cahira's best friend, despite how different they are. The bond they share is unbreakable. They are also incredibly dangerous together in combat. Should Ephemeris wander somewhere, Cahira will follow her.

While they don't really talk much, Cahira has much respect for Felicity due to her strength and prowess in combat. She also appreciates the fact that the Mirror is very patient with Ephemeris and that she doesn't mind teaching the Banescale a thing or two.

Now and then Cahira enjoys talking to Donovan, who is one of the calmer ones of the Guard. She thinks that he gives good advice and is a good second-in-command for the Guard, so she'd listen to his orders should he give one. She likes to discuss new potential battle techniques with him.

Silver clearly is nervous around Cahira, but she doesn't really mind the Coatl much. She does think that he needs to toughen up before he can officially join them and supports Felicity's teaching ways (aka "tough love"). Personally she doesn't interact much with Silver but she keeps an eye on him.

Diantha is one of the few dragons Cahira considers to be a friend outside the Guards. She can understand Diantha's need for peace and quiet, and thus always keep a respectful distance if they are near each other.

Trivia:

• Due to Ephemeris lacking thumbs, Cahira usually has to help her with all kinds of things. While it occasionally gets a quiet grumble out of her she never fails to help Ephemeris with whatever she needs help with. This makes others see Cahira as the older sister of Ephemeris. Many are convinced that the two actually view each other as siblings.
• While she would never admit it herself, she has quite a sweet-tooth. One of her favorite things to eat are Sugary Prickleaves. Sadly it's not easy to get by in the cold landscape surrounding the Clan. But they make sure to import it now and then to reward her with a tasty snack for helping to keep them all safe.
• To ensure that she keeps her arms free, Cahira sometime keeps her pearl safely stored in her part of the lair. But more often than not she keeps it in a sturdy bag she carries with her due to her growing anxious when she doesn't have it close by.
