Duchess was just a small-town boy, who's about to take the midnight train to the stars.

He's seen what's under Flynt's dragon guise and loved it.

Duchess was gifted immortality from their spouse Flynt and is absolutely ecstatic to go and see it all, the lights the sounds, the stars. Planets never before visited by dragon kind!

Starry Eyed Adventurer

Duchess is fairly well-known in the Clan for his generosity and hospitality, but nobody wonders why. When he tells stories, they’re usually about his travels or the hardships he faced trying to hold his inn together back when it was an old decrepit building. He rarely tells any stories of his childhood, but when he does it’s easy to see why he keeps his younger years a secret.

Most of his memories are images: a cramped box, a terrible storm, a sewage tunnel that smelled awful but provided relief from the pounding rain. The judgmental glances of dragons who proceeded to hurry away before he could ask for a morsel to eat. The time he spent working his poor tail off in the quarry for just enough money to feed his familiar, and maybe even himself if he was lucky. Even after the desperate sale of his familiar for a few measly gems, it took an incredibly long time to gather enough treasure to buy a ramshackle hut—practically an outhouse—to live in, then clothes that he could wear for an office job, which turned out to be much easier physically but equally detrimental to his mental health and self-esteem.

Even though Duchess is much better off than those horrible days that he tries so hard to forget, he’s very careful with money. He donates quite often to charities: treasure, clothes, food. He sometimes goes out to the streets and finds other unfortunate dragons and allows them to stay in his inn in exchange for work: busing tables, cleaning rooms, and so on. He never throws away food scraps, instead feeding them to his (now quite chubby) familiar.
