Cold. When Shiver awakes, the first thing she knows is cold — that and the half-crystallized face staring into her. Her talons burn with ice: a strange sensation, one not entirely unwelcome, but so, so freezing.
“How do you feel..?” Her monitor asks. His expression is odd, some bizarre combination of pride, hope, and grief.
She finds she cannot answer. Her tongue will not obey her. So she shakes her head and reaches for the notepad he’s been scribbling on.

The sun sets over the horizon. Crisp snow crunches beneath her paws. Her monitor walks beside her, shivering at the cold she cannot seem to feel. His breath clouds the air in front of him; hers remains clear even as the temperature drops with the coming night.
