In the beginning, Joshe belonged to a different clan of nature, one that was very self-absorbed and stuck up. To them, the most important thing was to save face. Joshe had never considered it a great way to exist. What was the point in spending all of one's time trying to impress others? Despite her beliefs, however, she held her head up and dressed like a princess for her parents so that their family would continue to be one of the most prestigious of everyone.

All of this had never been too much to bear until one specific night. All of the heads of the families within the clan were hosting a large event, one that they had always done for each turn of the seasons. Joshe was finally old enough to attend and she had to contain her bouncing excitement in order to keep her parents happy. She'd heard about these gatherings and how much fun they were. As a hatchling, it had always sounded like the one time that the dragons of her clan were allowed to misbehave and just have a good time.

When they arrived, she was sorely mistaken. The center of their territory, around the largest tree, was decorated nice and properly. The other young adults like her were just as the elders, stuck up, noses pointed high as they "delighted" in cakes and little teas. As silly as it might've seemed, it crushed her. It was then that she realized she would always live this way if she stayed here, never allowed to be anything but perfect.

She endured the party and later that night, packed up her most precious possessions and left. She paid off the snooty, snooping guard at their territory's entrance and was alone in the wilderness, afraid but also shaking with the exhilaration of getting away from her sheltered life. Before she was out of sight of her clan's territory, she looked back one last time. Her leaving would permanently leave her entire family a laughing stock. The shame that her mother and father would endure would be enormous. But as Joshe took a deep breath and looked to the beaten path through the trees in front of her, her freedom to be herself was more important.

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

It had been almost two whole months that Joshe spent travelling the Viridian Labyrinth, spending a lot of time learning about herself and what she liked. She found she was very clumsy, but somehow managed to save her falls without harm. She was not a very graceful nature dragon, stumbling through foliage and whatnot. Being perfect all the time was easy when you never went outside the clan's borders. She had traveled to a number of different clan's, all welcoming her with warm hospitality. In the time she spent with them, she learned that she was fascinated by science and alchemy. The bubble and bustle of creating new things and experimenting had captured her heart. Each alchemist she visited, she took something new with her on her journeys.

Joshe had become a completely new dragon after opening herself up to the world. She had learned to laugh and play with hatchlings, to enjoy the days with other adults who were cheerful and didn't care what other dragons thought of them. She was taught how to ease her travels, to make camp and how to survive on her own. She experienced what it was like to love one another for their individuality and she knew she would never go back to her old home. She did not miss the parents that, she felt, had never truly loved her the way a daughter should be.

Another month went by and the little tundra had been all over the Labyrinth. She had visited many different clans and was ready to settle into a new, final home. Many of those that she had been to had welcomed her to stay, but she was still searching for something specific. In truth, she didn't even know what it was until they stumbled into her camp at the crack of dawn one morning, his mane sticking straight out in every way, face covered in some sort of black soot.

"Oy!" She yelled out, her fur standing on end at the intrusion. Didn't he know what time it was? "Whatdya think yer doing? You look awful, man, did you dip yer face into a sticky black cauldron?"

The brown, giraffe-printed tundra male surprised her with his answer.

"Well...not exactly. But some might consider that something I do in my past time. You've got to clean your cauldrons now and then!"

He seemed completely oblivious to the fact that he had just woken her up before the sun had even risen. Joshe could faintly see the two moons of Sornieth still sitting on the horizon.

"Listen here, bucko, I'm tired. I've got a lot of traveling to do in just a few hours, and I don't appreciate being so rudely interrupted."

Suddenly the other tundra seemed to take in his surroundings for the first time and his body language changed. His features took on an apologetic look and he cringed openly. The face almost made Joshe laugh.

"Ah, oh my, I've done it again. Dionysus, you clutz." He spoke to himself for a moment, but then directed his attention back to her. "Ah, miss, would you like to accompany me back to my home? I can offer a much warmer place to sleep and a decent meal before you leave. We are quite welcoming, back home, you see. Very generous indeed."

It was only now that Joshe looked the male up and down for the first time. He was wearing quite an odd outfit for an alchemist, which she was only guessing that he was. He wore and alchemist's bag and a pair of protective goggles. What else could he be? She was a bit reluctant, but as this Dionysus took off his spectacles and tried to clean them with his already spotted shirt, she held back a giggle and decided to join him.

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Later that morning, after the sun had risen and Joshe was in a much better mood, the two tundras stopped before a large wall of enormous trees. There was a particularly vine-covered area where the leafy limbs grew together tightly, like they were protecting something. Joshe was intrigued as Dionysus approached the vines. She expected him to maybe preform a spell or to at least do something...discreet. But instead he tilted his head back and let out a loud, very tundra-ish sound. Joshe was astounded. Never in her life had she heard another tundra make such a noise. Could she make noises like that? She'd never even tried. Impulse took over her, her body acting on instinct, as if insisting that she could make tundra noises. She was a tundra after all. Her chest vibrated slightly as the same sort of noise belted out from inside her. Dionysus looked back, as if very confused but also amused. Joshe felt a heat in her cheeks and she lowered her head with a quietly muttered "sorry".

"Come on, then. They're waiting."

Dionysus ushered Joshe forward, excitement clear in his features. She'd also never seen a tundra wag it's tail like a dog, but Dionysus didn't seem like the kinda of male to hide his emotions much.

Joshe's attention then moved to the wall of vines that had, apparently, disappeared. She was a little bewildered, but she walked forward into the dark entrance. Thick walls of tree trunk stood on either side of her. She felt the power of their energies, how ancient they were. It was comforting. Ahead of her more light filtered in. When she emerged finally, there were several dragons their to greet her, Dionysus coming in closely behind.

"Welcome home, Dionysus," spoke another tundra, this one of a dark blue and coal. She was dressed in druid's garb, which Joshe felt was odd next to the birdskulls she wore. Standing next to her was a dragon that was very hard to ignore. There were not many guardians back in her old home. Granted, she had met many in her journeys through the Labyrinth, but this guardian was regal and proud in a different, humbling way. His enormous antlers drew on her attention the most. This dragon was very strongly connected to his element. He was the one to speak next.

"Your newest journey went well, I presume? You never come back from a soured venture dirty."

His voice was deep and had an odd quality. He sounded like the familiarity of an elder family member, a voice that was soothing and comforting. She was easily relaxed by it.

"Indeed, fascinating it was! I never imagined the beastclans to be so interesting. Their scientifics are a bit skewed, but I have learned a few new things that are quite helpful! I will have to visit again soon," Dionysus said next. He then brought everyone's full attention to Joshe. The guardian and tundra had only given her off glances until now.

"This individual is Joshe, my dear leaders. She's come to seek out a place to stay for a short while. I do admit, I stumbled into her camp this morning and made a mess of things unintentionally."

"Ah, well, that would not be the first time you've done so, Dionysus," the guardian spoke, sitting back on his hind legs. He bowed his head slightly and the blue tundra did the same. "We welcome you, Joshe. I am Orik, clan patriarch, and this is Arya. She is our matriarch and lead healer. Should you need anything to ease your aches, she is the one to come to."

Arya offered a warm smile as Orik said this, and Joshe bowed respectfully to the clan leaders.

"I am extremely grateful for yer hospitality. I will do what I can to not be a burden on yer fine clan. From what I've seen, yer territories are beautiful. I look forward te be learning something new from yer alchemist as well."

The two leaders smiled, bowed once more, and both flew off gracefully. Joshe was surprised at how trusting they were, but that must be on Dionysus' account. She knew that whatever she did while she was here would also reflect on his leader's trust in him.
