Some time ago, a nest of two was lain atop the Focal Point, left to ruminate and grow under the watch of the stars. For a while both seemed healthy, but eventually one fell to its side, appearing to lack any sign of life. The pink crust of shell dulled in comparison to its nestmate, yet no-one intervened to remove or tend to it, for this was simply the way things were - survival could be a cruel mistress. Survival, however, was met with fate one night, the latter winning the battle over who would claim the future of the contents within.

On the night of a full moon, the sky rumbled, splitting as a deafening crack of lightning slammed into the side of the island. Other than a few boulders splitting and falling into the sea, nothing appeared to be amiss, but unless one could see past layers of soil and rock, they would miss the bolt's true target. Upon impact, the stretch of electricity reached up and penetrated the point's grassy surface, making contact with the dud egg. In that moment, the embryo within stirred, very much alive and eager to thrive. As his mind and soul formed, his heartbeat raced; if one looked close enough, they could see the faintest of light pulsating along a newly-brightened shell with the rhythm of his life force. Such things weren't entirely uncommon, but after the nest was struck by lightning...

It wasn't long after said event took place that the time came for him to emerge, and the tundra did so with fluidity and purpose, the outer shell of his egg cracking and falling apart in three equal pieces. His form seemed to melt from the base, as metallic and sheen as the night sky itself. Not a drop of egg matter clung to him, yet his wings seemed damp with the freshness of new life as they spread open, glittering under the moonlight. His eyes - lit with an eternal glow - flicked upward and settled on the crescent hanging above. Eerily, the dragonet's body moved nary an inch, frozen as he watched... listened. Something swirled around in his consciousness, entwining itself deep into his thoughts. Eventually, a slow blink revealed the tundra slipping back into this world, maw parting to utter one word:

"Alpha."

With his new name applied (as he wasn't sure what else the word spoken to him was intended for), Alpha worked tirelessly, even fresh from the egg. Despite what could have been a harrowing ending, Alpha was still the firstborn - still the first male and equipped with a strong lineage flowing through his veins. He grew large, strong and adapted somewhat wolfish features. Despite his efforts and maturity, still-unknown voices mumbled all around him, nagging and making the Tundra feel as if he needed to prove himself. Over the course of many years he trained body, mind and soul to near-peak condition, but the sensation still lingered... what else did he have to learn? To accomplish?

Perplexed, the beast approached the edge of an overhang, silently sitting and curling his tail around himself to meditate. Head tilted upward and eyes closed, Alpha relaxed, the sound of waves lapping against the cliff-side below bringing a moment of peace. Being alone with the galaxy and star formations above always soothed him during troubling times, but as the starlight shone down upon him, a restless feeling rose in his throat. Sparks danced upon his paws and popped from his mane. What was this keeping him from achieving peace? Growling, Alpha let out a soft snarl, pushing mentally to search deeper inside himself.

It was sudden, hitting him with a shock similar to the one which ignited his spark in the egg so long ago. Standing, Alpha recoiled, blinking rapidly in confusion. So that was it, then? An answer so simple had plagued him for this long?

A toss of his head and flick of his wings signaled the tundra was preparing to launch, and he did so with gusto, muscles working hard to propel his large frame across the Starfall Isles.

This wasn't where he was meant to be. It was time to move on.

Like many others who randomly appeared at the doorstep of Wild Heights, Alpha felt instant relief overtake him once he entered the territory. He paused, taking deep breaths as he walked, feeling more peace further he encroached. Unlike many others, however, the drake's journey came to a forcible halt when a fierce winter wind hit him, knocking those relaxed breaths from his body. Despite being thrown back, Alpha dug his talons into the earth and braced himself, peering up from narrowed eyes in preparation for whatever blindsided him. As quickly as the gust came, it subsided, the laughter of several voices replacing it. The beast did not move, even as a platinum Skydancer faded into view, accompanied by several shadowy spirits.

"Finally - our alpha" she spoke, the voices ringing out together for the last two words. Snorting, the Tundra remained where he was. They seemed to know his name, but they were using it in the wrong context. The entities giggled, dancing around their Skydancer protege.

"He thought his name was alpha!"
"He doesn't know his own name?!"
"Are you sure he's one of us?"

The voices chimed in one after the other, but between the Skydancer humming in laughter and Alpha softening his stance, they quickly quieted down. In a situation like this, most dragons would be utterly confused, and rightly so - he hadn't said his name out loud. They'd read his thoughts. Instead of being perplexed, Alpha felt as if he needed to welcome their presence as part of him... it almost felt as if they were a missing piece of his puzzle - something he didn't even know he'd been lacking. Instead of reacting, the tundra waited calmly, somehow knowing the other drake was itching to explain.

"We know you felt it when your essence first stirred" she began, wings expanding and closing in consideration. "What brought you to life, do you think? Did you honestly believe the strike of lightning sent from our Celestial Plane was an accident? No." A smile tugged at the corner of Kamui's mouth. "We Gods saw the promise of your form, your potential - you were not to be wasted as an unhatched babe upon this earth. We needed you here to guide and lead our subjects. Surely you remember descending from On High into this vessel, Alaric?"

It felt as if he'd been stabbed with a dagger of ice from Kamui herself when the Tundra heard his true name, eyes wide with shock as he took a step back, then froze. Alaric. Yes, he... he remembered. His name was not Alpha - he was an alpha. The voice he heard when his life first began... it was his own before he settled into this draconic form, waiting for the day when he would be awakened once more as the God of Thunder. This place was what he'd been searching for this entire time. Gods, how had he not known?!

Kamui and her subjects vanished immediately after their revelation, but Alaric had no further need for their presence. With newfound knowledge and power coursing through his being, the beast continued his stride into Wild Heights, finally aware of his purpose. Currently, he resides as the alpha figure to a small pack of canid-laden dragons, leading them with otherworldly elemental prowess.
