Biography

sword_1_by_rexcaliburr-dbedyub.png Andraste
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

Andraste stood on the edge of the huge cliff looking over the Gladeveins. Below her were dozens of streams glittering in the sunlight, the Seer’s pond looked like a huge blue sapphire embedded in patches of green and grey. It looked serene and beautiful. And most of the time it was. She sighed. Turning around slowly, she focused her attention on the field that was directly behind her. Nothing indicated that a huge battle had been fought here long ago. No scorched earth, no bleached bones. But she could still feel it. A strange tingling sensation on her skin, or on some days, shivers running down her spine when she crossed the vast field. The veil was thin here, it was a haunted place. Not that she wasn’t used to spirits and ghosts. She had been born in the Tangled Woods, otherworldly creatures were not uncommon there. But this ancient battlefield was different. It felt alien, dangerous, evil. Of course, she had heard the tale of that strange Kitsune named Yggdrasil who claimed to have witnessed the downfall of the ancient kingdom that once built this place. It seemed plausible and yet, a creature living hundreds of years? She would have liked to visit him, ask him questions but apparently the Kitsune had made it very clear that he wouldn’t take kindly to visitors. Her commander had forbidden her to go near him, and she obeyed. They had taken his tale seriously, and so far, nothing indicated he had lied to them. In fact, his advice on how to fight this particular breed of spirits had been most useful. As had his account of the places where they were most likely to cross over. The Council had decided to put guards on watch there and so far, it had payed off. They had managed to hunt down and kill most of them shortly after their manifestation when they were still disoriented and thus, weakened. Still, some of them were formidable enemies and Andraste had been glad to face them not at their height of power. Nonetheless, she dreaded the shifts when she was on guard duty at one of those places. She’d rather patrol the forests than sitting here where here senses were always strained by the constant supernatural activities. But then, her sensitivity to the supernatural made her perfect for the job. So she was on guard duty here more often than patrolling the forests.

A few hours later, Andraste was visited by her best friend Nightshade, the daughter of their Clan’s leaders Fahlyn and Antafes. Her brother Hanami followed her like some pompous guard dog, but stayed out of earshot. As much as Andraste liked her friend, she never understood what she saw in her stern brother and why she allowed him to follow her around. It would have driven her crazy if some of her fellow Night Warriors would be tagging her every step. But then they were Guardians, maybe it was a Guardian thing. Andraste smiled at her friend. She was carrying a basket and Andraste could smell warm freshly baked bread and cider. Nightshade smiled back and set the basket down. “I thought you might need some sustenance sitting here in the hot sun and staring at that dreadful field.” she said. Andraste laughed. “Well, it is hot and the field is dreadful. I really welcome your company.” Both dragons settled down, Hanami stood in the back watching the field. He would alert them if there was any unnormal activity. They unpacked the provisions and Andraste’s stomach rumbled. She only realized now how hungry she was. The bred was warm and tasty, the cider cold and refreshing. “You still want to go through with your plan?” Andraste asked. Nightshade nodded. “Of course. I thought you agreed with me? It just isn’t very efficient as it is now. With everyone going their own way. We are a huge and prospering Clan, and there are dangers all around us. We have to protect the dragons that are living here. Yes, I know, you do that now. And you are doing a great job, as do the Wardens, the scouts, the Dawnguards and the Emerald Guard and all the other smaller factions. But imagine how much more you could do when you would actually all work together. Coordinate your efforts. It doesn’t make sense for you to work on your own all the time. Just rallying together when there are problems. Don’t you see that?” Andraste sighed. Nightshade had a point. Pooling their resources wasn’t a bad idea. But until now, there had been nobody to coordinate the different groups of warriors, scouts and mages. It would have to be someone whose leadership was accepted by all. So it couldn’t be one from either of the groups, the Night Warriors would never accept commands coming from a simple scout, the Dawnguards would never accept a Night Warrior as their superior and so it went on. They were squabbling amongst each other and it made them inefficient at best and vulnerable at worst. Nonetheless, uniting the different factions would be a very difficult task. Andraste looked at her friend, her face showing nothing but confidence. If there was someone who was up to the task, it was Nightshade, the daughter of their Clan leaders and a formidable warrior and strategist. She only hoped the others would recognize that, too.

Information
Name // Andraste
-- Origin of name // An ancient deity of war said to have been cruel and vindictive.

Role // Warrior

Personality // Andraste is proud of her heritage and trained very hard to join the ranks of her family. She was happy to be sent to the Viridian Labyrinth, since she always loved the forests and bogs of her birth flight. Though the lush forests here are different from the ones she grew up in, she quickly learned to navigate through them safely. Andraste is very sensitive to the supernatural, a trait she herself is not very font of. But she has learned to use this ability to her advantage. Her kind personality and fondness for colorful and illustrious garments led some to question her suitability as a warrior. She proved them wrong. Everyone who has seen her fight will never doubt gain that she is a descendant from the formidable founders of the Night Warriors. Andraste herself doesn’t care what others think of her, she knows who and what she is. Her best friend is Nightshade, the daughter of the Clan Leaders.

Familiar // Snuffles
-- Role of familiar // Snuffles is a huge fluffy ball of joy and friendliness. He was adopted by Andraste when she arrived at the Sanctuary. Andraste doesn’t need a scary, ferocious or wild companion. All she wants when she comes home from a long work day is someone who greets her with sincere happiness and brings a smile to her face. And Snuffles does that.
