Biography
You walk down a carved obsidian path, surrounded by vines that hang down from barren, dead trees. Eternal darkness has fallen upon this cursed garden, but plants closer to the ground remain alive and well, just as the vines continue to grow.
The earth around you is plentiful with bushes of fruits and berries, alongside various cool-tones flowers that rise from within the foliage. Red-purple lilies are dripping with what almost looks like honey, which gently glows and sinks straight into the ground upon falling.
With only a lantern to guide your way, much of the forest is hidden in shadows and darkness. Insects crowd around you, driven to investigate the only light in this land. Despite the bugs surrounding you, eerie silence hangs heavy, making you nervous to speak.
Will you try and help this cursed land? Or simply observe?
Rainier knew that to be accepted in the inner ranks of the sanctuary of the Secret Garden she had to bring proof of her good will and botanical skills. The shamans were inflexible about this, and many had failed, but she knew of the perfect place that would bring out her abilities and satisfy the shamans request.
After two days of flight, she finally entered the Garden of Shadows. It was known in the region as a place where not even the omnipresent thorny bushes or glowing mushrooms would grow. Only a few, persistent flowers remained, adamant to survive in these harsh conditions.
For a moment she pondered if taking with her some of those plants would be enough to pass the test -knowing the shamans obsession for rare flowers, that would probably suffice- but her mission was something more substantial, and she hoped it would bring to much better effects in the long term.
With this in mind, she opened her satchel and began taking samples.
It took weeks of work. Her aim was to discover how exactly the plants survived and after many experiments, trials and errors, she was finally able to synthesize a serum that she believed would bring the garden trees back to life, and even allow other flora endemic of the region to thrive in the garden.
With a joyful heart she administered it to her first tree. And waited.
It took almost three months and she was about to lose her hope, when one morning she noticed little pale blue buds emerging tentatively from the branches. She watched over the tree for another three weeks, and the situation seemed stable. Rainier was glad contemplating the fruits of her hard work, but decided that it would be better to leave the garden for now, and bring some proof with her to satisfy the shamans. After dismantling her camp and taking one of each species of flower and a bit of sap from her tree she left, making a mental promise to return to a later date to revitalize the other plants.
One day, when Rainier returns to check on her recovering garden, she sees a Fae wandering through the trees!
“Oh, hello there! I’ve been wandering these lands a while, watching these plants attempt to survive despite these harsh conditions. I’ve been using my magic whenever I can, but nothing I did seemed to help. And yet, this is your work! I’ve seen you around, tending to this garden, it’s astounding!”
She eyes Rainier’s satchel, “You must be very skilled and knowledgeable, that’s very noble of you! Wait, I haven’t even introduced myself yet! I’m Leirdri, glad to meet you. I understand you must come from an amazing lair, yes? I’d be so honoured if I could see about joining your ranks, I’d love to be able to learn from you and everyone who lives with you!”
