It’s a taken that even the most incompetent dragon can still hunt for themself. Unfortunately, some of the dragons in the Aequitas Clan are so incompetent, they don’t even have that basic survival instinct. Luckily for them, one enterprising Nocturne set up the Karma Cafe, which provides for all the needs of you incompetent morons, and serves as a relaxing platform for the actually useful dragons in the lair. As far as anyone knows, it’s the first and only cafe in the Runic Mountain Range, giving it the exclusive ability to charge way more than tiny cups of tea and crumpets are worth. Fortunately, it’s not like your money is going anywhere else now that you’re stuck in the mountain range, so you might as well pay up. The enterprising Nocturne in charge of the Karma Cafe is Mysteria, and many dragons would agree that she’s by far one of the more useful Nocturnes in the clan. Not that the other Nocturnes are useless, of course not. But when you’ve got Muffin blowing things up and Isfet also blowing things up and Mythic being the result of things being blown up, well, having a dragon who enjoys cooking and preparing tea is a relief. The fact that Mysteria actively goes out to forage for plants and hunt for food is a bonus, even if her handmade sandwiches and paninis cost an arm and a leg. As the owner of the Karma Cafe, Mysteria works closely with Herayla, her barista, and Kayania, the local fool (or entertainer, whatever.) Most of the time, Mysteria makes all the food, Herayla brews all the drinks, and Kayania makes sure to rob the clients of any riches they have left after paying for their meal through a game of cards or dice. When meal times are over, they all pitch in to do the cleaning up. Well, Herayla and Kayania pitch in to do the cleaning up, while Mysteria relaxes nearby with a cup of tea. There’s some benefit to being the owner, after all. And seeing as working at the cafe is really the only viable way to earn some coin in the clan, she can afford to slack off. Mysteria also works with Nagara, who heads out of the mountain range to purchase supplies for her. The cost of transaction is somewhat pricely, though, so Mysteria’s considered just making a plantation nearby the clan to cut down on the costs. Perhaps she could barter with Myrtle for some of the Guardian’s seedlings. Knowing Mysteria’s calm demeanor and ability to quickly escape enraged customers, she might actually come out of the encounter alive. |

Running the cafe takes up a lot of time, so Mysteria usually doesn’t leave her shop. As her hobbies mostly involve meditating, reading, and listening to music, there isn’t a need for her to move more than five steps away from her abode. On the rare occasions she does go out, it’s usually for a brisk flight through the mountain range, which she does weekly to keep herself in shape. You could argue a single flight every week doesn’t do much to help muscle growth, but you wouldn’t want to have that argument with someone who controls the majority of the food supply. Mysteria gets along well with the other clan members, mostly because they’re all her customers and so she interacts with them using her “customer service” face. She gets along well with Kraken, since the cafe has to pay a monthly fee to the clan hoard for using the space and so she sees him more frequently than other dragons. Mysteria is usually able to convince Kraken that she owes the clan less than she actually does. Fortunately, the clan isn’t that short of money, or in much need of it, so Kraken hasn’t noticed the dwindling payments she offers him. Aside from Kraken, Mysteria also gets along with Seraphina and Moonfeather. Seraphina sometimes puts on plays in the cafe, and Moonfeather occasionally helps her with the cooking. Mysteria enjoys Seraphina’s performances, and often serves as a beta reader for the Spiral’s newest scripts. She also has a friendly relationship with Mythic, who comes up to the cafe to get refreshments for the fighters. The two Nocturnes can often be found meditating together. While Mysteria has been shown to be interested in Mythic’s accident, she’s never done anything about it. It’s likely that she knows who did it. She just won’t be the one to tell everyone else. Her secretive nature makes her a hard dragon to define. Mysteria keeps a cool head in every situation and has never been shown to be anything less or more than politely interested and mildly amused. Even if the world was ending and falling into pieces, she’ll probably still be brewing tea and meditating, rather than screaming like the non-Arcane half of her clanmates, or rushing out to take notes like the Arcane half of her clanmates. Furthermore, Mysteria seems to know a lot about the clan, making poignant suggestions about Astraea’s loss of memory, Universa’s lack of a pearl, and Kerendia’s strange origin. But as she never does anything about it, nobody really cares. Most of the time, though, Mysteria chills at her cafe, which is located on the topmost level of the lair, right below the Echo Chambers. It’s an excellent place to watch sunrise and sunset while sipping from an expensive cup of tea and finishing an even more expensive plate of munchies. The cafe has no menu aside from a simple selection of tea, and Mysteria claims that this is because every customer will get exactly what they want from the cafe, whatever that means. Normally, she’s right. Kraken gets simple meals. Demeter gets fuller ones. Moonfeather’s has a taste of home, and Nephthys’ is bitter with hate. There hasn’t been a customer unsatisfied with their meals yet. Of course, there was that one time Isfet got sent to the infirmary after downing a bowl full of chili pepper soup, but nobody’s got a perfect record. Mysteria’s specialty in the cafe is jasmine tea. In comparison to Herayla’s special brew, it’s a lot sweeter, and Mysteria enchants it with magic that promotes good health, calm, and a clear mind. The spells are completely ineffective on certain dragons in the clan, but it’s the thought that counts. |
