As a young hatchling, one of a clutch of four, Alluvia was a quiet and studious thing. She did, however, exhibit an unsettling capacity for knowing things - conversations she couldn't have possibly overheard, events that had happened well beyond the walls of the Archive, and more.

In another clan, Alluvia's budding talent may have gone unrecognized. Here in Clan Silverwind, with the knowledge of the ages at their fingertips, the early beginnings of the Magisterium were able to recognize her for what she was - a Windseer, able to see and hear events from far across Sonrieth, if they were carried on the right breeze.

Her parents, spiritual dragons who felt called to serve the Windsinger, rejoiced. They intended to take their entire family with them into the Windsinger's service, but as she grew up, Alluvia dedicated more and more of her time to sitting in Archive's tallest spire, watching and listening to all that was carried to her on the winds. When the time came, she chose to remain as her family left the Archive - in part because the tall tower had become her favorite place in the world, and in part because of a certain daredevil child of the Clanmother.

Alluvia hadn't been actively watching. Her clanmates tried to understand that her talent meant she didn't always choose what she saw, but Alluvia still considered it a courtesy to glance away and find a different wind if the breeze she was scrying showed her one of her own.

She didn't look away this time. Not when a howling gust crossed her vision and with it, the image of Skerion tumbling end-over-end through the Crescendo, tiny wings beating frantically. Alluvia sat bolt upright.

The breeze fell away.

"No!" she hissed, digging her claws into the stone below her. The tower was tall, and one side of it had crumbled away to expose it to the elements. It was perfect for Alluvia's work, perfect for seeing and hearing all she needed to see, except she couldn't control it. She couldn't decide which wind came to her.

Or could she?

Alluvia closed her eyes, breathing deep and slow. Find your center, that's what Corvus always told her. She tried now, falling inside herself, concentrating on that snatch of image she'd seen.

It was inside the Crescendo's vortex, which made it even harder. She'd never been able to see inside there, never been able to penetrate the chaos of winds. But now, as she quieted her breathing and focused her mind, she could hear Skerion's heavy breathing in her ear like he was right next to her.

She opened her eyes and saw him, struggling for a gap in the Crescendo's outer cloud bank. A spear whistled past his ear and Alluvia held her breath to keep from gasping - if she moved, she might lose it again. She clung to the stone beneath her claws and didn't breathe and watched, her heart straining in her chest, like she could lend Skerion her strength on the winds if she only tried hard enough.

You're almost there. she thought desperately, as a beat of Skerion's wings tumbled him closer to the gap in the clouds. You can make it.

Skerion tumbled out of the Vortex as she watched, spinning like a top, and Alluvia waited only long enough to see the Talonok break the clouds behind him before she let the wind go, let her eyes adjust to the real world again, and took off in flight. She had to find Damocles and warn him of the attack.

She had to help save Skerion.

One moment of desperation helped Alluvia find the trick to her scrying. Now, instead of waiting for the wind to come to her, Alluvia can reach out and pull nearby winds to examine the stories and visions they have to give. She can hold a wind if she finds something interesting, and if she goes deep into meditation, she can ride that wind far away from the Archive.

It is this rare magic that makes Alluvia the major source of news regarding happenings around Sonrieth. She is also the clan's early warning system, able to see an attack well before it arrives. Because of this, she and Skerion share both a close working relationship and a close personal one. It was Alluvia who quickly alerted Damocles to the Talonok attack, therefore saving Skerion's life that fateful day. And it's Alluvia who advises the General how his enemies are moving and where they're coming from. The two of them make a formidable team of military strategy.

All of this doesn't keep Alluvia from also being the source of all the clan's best gossip. Though she professes frequently that she doesn't try to look in on her clanmates, she inevitably does. With a small bribe (caramels are her favorite), she might divulge some of these secrets, if she doesn't think it'll cause any lasting harm. Alluvia is the source of most of the Magisterium's internal squabbles, as she's only too happy to tell one Magister that another has made an exciting new academic discovery.
