Ares

Druan was never one for crowds. He preferred to stay quiet and reminisce. However, Arrenzo talked him into going to the Brightshine Jubilee festival during its peak, reasoning that his coliseum partner needed to have fun. One stall in particular drew Druan's attention. Several nests lay spread out, with proud parents close at hand. The usually silent wildclaw tapped one egg and made his guess in accordance to the rules. Several days later, Ares appeared at the clan, looking to meet his new family.

Ares was originally met with disdain from the majority of the clan, but the little guardian did not give up. He ignored the laughter as he strolled up to the strongest dragon in the clan, tripping over his own trailing wings on the way, and loudly declared that he was going to protect Druan as his Charge. He was swiftly knocked back with a single flap of the wildclaw's wings.

The hatchling still persevered. The entire day, he followed Druan, despite the many knockbacks that the irritated wildclaw gave him. At night, he slept outside the lair entrance, shivering in the cold, until it was finally unblocked by the wildclaw. It was with reluctance that Druan invited the hatchling into his lair, and with even more reluctance that he draped one mighty, warm wing over the guardian to save him from the cold, but Ares couldn't have been happier. Those days were joyful ones to the little guardian, and he dreamt of keeping away all the monsters looking to attack Druan.


As the hatchling grew, he became even more determined to protect Druan, fighting off many that came close, even friends. He became intensely jealous of Arrenzo, but found himself unable to keep the fae away. When he became too big, he was forced to set up a lair of his own within the confines of the clan, missing the warmth and companionship his nights with Druan had once provided him.

Ares vowed to become stronger. He began to help by taking on the gathering roles that Arrenzo and Druan usually completed by themselves, and formed his own team with Bramble and Kain to venture out into the wilderness, fight invaders and bring back treasures for the clan. The trio grew strong and became well known throughout the clan.

Ares could feel something was wrong from the moment Druan went missing. He was the first to spot the water sprite flying back, and he was the one that found the downy fox rat at the edge of their clan. His confidence shattered as he realised he was now a guardian without a Search... a guardian who had lost his Charge. His despairing wail was the first thing that let the clan know disaster had struck.

Since the disappearance, Ares has been a changed dragon. He still fights by his friends' sides, but he no longer takes part in any of their other activities. He refuses to nest with any dragon, but will suddenly snap at Bramble or Kain if they try to leave the clan without him, or if they go missing for too long. The duo have learned to tread carefully around their friend, and are constantly searching for ways to bring him back to the dragon he used to be.

He guards Druan's downy fox rat as he used to Druan, back when he was younger. The two snuggle up closely at night, and he follows the fox rat round during the day, when he's not trying to guard his friends. Worryingly, he calls the little creature 'Druan'. He has nested during this time with the stable Rune, but he quickly abandoned his nestmate and eggs to keep looking after 'Druan'.

Recently, he has begun to nest with the resident dark dragon, Yuna. Unlike with Rune, he hasn't abandoned this nest, and he spends more time in the imperial's company. However, he still lashes out against his friends if they try to leave the lair without him, and he is encouraging both Sholto's vengeful behaviour and the mirror's attempts to gain strength.
