Mandrake

Mandrake was never going to be the warrior, the destroyer. From the moment he hatched and wind rustled the spring leaves around him, he was destined to create and nurture. He was brought up like any other hatchling, in his safe, warm clan. Unlike his siblings and the other hatchlings, however, he would sit calmly and watch the clouds twist and the leaves spiral as gusts of wind picked them up and tossed them through the sky. Sometimes he was teased for his dreamy ways, but most of the time everyone else left him too it. He was almost fully grown when the wolves came. They attacked the clan, and when the older dragons tried and failed to fight them off, it seemed all hope was lost. But Mandrake walked up to the wolves, slowly and serenely as if only half aware of What he was doing, and held out a small herb leaf. And the wolves ran. All but one, which stayed, sat down obediently, and nuzzled Mandrake gently. Ever since, Mandrake has tamed many beasts, though they are all types of wolf or dog. He now loves the species, and spends much of his time caring for and playing with his gentle pack of dogs.
