After making her way into the Shifting Expanse, Gumball hitched a ride with a messenger and found herself in the Viridian Labyrinth. Old enough by now to manage short glides, but no more interested in long flights than any other mirror, she was thrilled with the prospect of a jungle full of trees to climb, jump or glide off of, or run between. It was like the whole world was an obstacle course, with plenty of things in it she could kill!

The adult dragons at her destination were considerably less thrilled. She was still far too young to be traveling alone, by that clan's standards. The hoard guardian who was receiving that day's delivery of goods took receipt of Gumball as well, and took her, over her loud protests and threats, to Akua, the former traveler who often cared for unaccompanied hatchlings. That arrangement lasted less than half a day; Gumball was already larger than the fae, and kept escaping even when Akua enlisted mirror help. Booberry managed, for a little while, to corral her, but she was already plotting her next move. The jungle was far too exciting for her to spend any more time cooped up in the lair, let alone doing anything boring like learning to read and write.
