Biography

The Watchful Prince

The son of monarchs and raised, briefly, in a regal environment, yet almost 500th in line for a throne he has no interest in claiming. Tyrilann is largely a prince in name only.

He has some kind of horrible joke of a curse: The ability to see out of all eyes simultaneously. Not just his own, any and all eyes. He sees everything that is seen, at all times. If there is an eye of some description, Prince Tyrilann can see out of it. He has plenty on his own body, but they're not enough. He can barely remember where he is, what he's doing, or what his surroundings look like. Sometimes he'll lapse into watching the view from a particular set of eyes, because it's familiar. He has many such familiar views and in a way they're all a kind of home to him. It's a comfort to see anything he recognises.

He's discovered that he finds it easy to focus on a certain viewpoint if the individual bearing the eyes are physically proximate to him. The closer, the better. So he sort of....started gathering creatures with lots of eyes. Spiders came first, of course. And the fey, because they see in many directions at once. And dragons with multigaze, like him. He surrounded himself with many-eyed friends, such that he can see himself and his surroundings most clearly in the immense and eternal sea of sights. He could even see himself through them, from many perspectives at once.

For probably the first time, Prince Tyrilann knew where he was, with certainty. He even knew his way around! Being able to navigate without bumping into walls he couldn't see was alien at first, and it took him a long time to stop stumbling around with his wings out like an off-balance hatchling learning to walk.

Tyrilann and his haphazard court (though he had told them he was a prince, he had not told them what of) decided that, while gaggling around like geese was fun, and good for him...it maybe wasn't the best long-term solution to this problem. So, they sought out the actual feyfolk. Partly on a (mostly accurate) hunch that they were responsible for this particular curse...and partly just because no-one had any better ideas.

The fae were amused but amicable and offered to remove Tyrilann's distracting sight. Predictably, they did not intend to be selective. He would be blind, completely, stumbling around like a hatchling again. He politely declined and made to leave but, as it happens, they weren't doing this as a favour or for the payment. They wanted his sight. All of it. They wanted to take it for themselves and see as he does.

Being trapped in the twilight zone between Sornieth proper and some kind of Avalon was not a good prospect, but it was apt to happen if they fought off all the fae the hard way. So, they kept a handful alive to use as canaries to find their way out. It was a long fight and hard-won, but Tyrilann and his court made it out relatively unscathed.

Separated from the rest of their ilk, they even managed to renegotiate with most of the remaining fae. They are now, effectively, also courtiers of Tyrilann, the Watchful Prince. His grand victory attracted attention from stranger, more distant corners. He and his court took down (most of) a powerful fae court! Those who had considered that court their enemies arrived in scattered time to pay their respects and offer their services.

Tyrilann's court is now filling up with fae, and things....stranger than fae. As each day passes, their presence becomes normal, until something stranger arrives, and that becomes normal. There are a small group of ordinary multigaze dragons who are getting rather worried about this, but the Prince and his betrothed seem quite happy about it. Some of the new arrivals even claim to be able to fix Tyrilann's curse of sight.
