Malfunction was used to strange looks. Some were from her name, others from her outfit. It was meant to be unobtrusive, but when you're related to Naomi, nothing is inconspicuous. Some whispered she had Naomi's powers, and would destroy them all. Others agreed on the destroying bit, but thought she was allied with the Shade instead. Mal would have loved to prove them wrong, but...
Every now and then, when she was far from prying eyes, Mal would summon her ability. The world would flicker and bend around her, distorted and unrecognizable. Glitches would appear in her vision, and she would catch glimpses of other worlds. But she could never do it for long, no matter how enthralling it was to her- she was unable to keep it going for long, and she didn't want to summon the Shade.
