_ Jakub, old as he is, learns something new every day. Good thing, too, because if Caermiel has anything to say about it, he's got the brains of a Podid with the looks to match. (She kids - well, he thinks.) Armed with a good head on his shoulders and luckily born into a Flight obsessed with inquiry, Jakub has been a wandering scholar for most of his lifetime, exploring and recording every corner of Sorneith.

Jakub moved to the Southern Icefield in order to study the fossils and relics that Ice dragons are so fond of, but he got sidetracked, an event that Caermiel likes to cite as the prime example of his Podid-headedness. He's fascinated by Clan Zmaj's worship of bones, and currently dedicates himself to recording their traditions and practices on paper, something very few outsiders have lived to witness and even fewer to share with the other flights.

Mateja isn't sure how she feels about his work, but Jakub has promised that he is being accurate and respectful to her clan and Preservationism as possible.

...even if the whole business unnerves him a tiny bit.
