Biography
In his youth, he practiced magic, under an extremely talented mentor. She might have had questionable methods, and her interests tended towards the darker, but that was what intrigued him. She taught him what others wouldn't, or couldn't. Together, they were doing things that even the strongest plagueling would shy away from- it made him feel important.
He trained under her for some years, assisting with acquisition of materials often- he was the one that always managed to bargain down the price, with his gentle smile but firm bartering.
Things were going well, until his mentor came across a book that contained new spells- necromatic magic, raising the dead.
Wrexon wasn't one to shy away from even this, one of the most extreme taboos. His mentor wasn't either- but she couldn't perform the spells, and wouldn't allow Wrexon to until she had done it first. She became obsessed with trying, but she kept failing.
Soon, this became the only thing she worked on, and she was obsessed. She did stranger, worse and worse things to try and get the spells to work.
Something happened, one evening, that Wrexon almost entirely refuses to speak of. On one of the nights his usually composed mentor seemed utterly manic and delighted over some new development in her attempts to make the spell work. She brought in a freshly murdered body, by her own claws- a level she'd never stooped to. And then she dragged Wrexon over, and tried to spill his blood atop the corpse. He resisted, shouted at her. He destroyed her precious book, shredding it in his claws- and she was so enraged he had to flee. When he finally escaped her lair, he was badly, badly wounded.
Wrexon quit magic entirely. He didn't learn what became of his mentor, and he didn't care. The dragon who had taught him was consumed by madness.
Now he's a loan shark- as his charming, charismatic self he lends, and if you don't pay, his much more intimidating side collects. He doesn't use magic anymore, but he doesn't need it- he will mess you up if you don't have the treasure.
