Chronos was a warrior, proud and brave. He served under his king for many years, doing everything in his power to protect his kingdom. At his side was his closest friend and equal on the battlefield, Pyrite. The two of them worked side by side, protecting the other and fighting for what they believed in. One day, a dragon who claimed herself an enchantress, a being with powerful magic capable of turning even the flimsiest sword into something more powerful. Chronos refused her services, and instead asked for her love in return, for he had fallen for her. She accepted, and though her travels took them apart, they always found time to meet.

As the years went on, their king began to act stranger. Calling for battles that were unnecessary or threats to the crown that didn't exist. Chronos began to see the changes in him, but his friend refused to listen, believing the king to be right. One day, the king called for war with a neighboring kingdom. Reluctantly, Chronos took up arms to fight. Many died that day, friend and foe alike. Chronos couldn't bare to continue, knowing that this was a war fought needlessly. As he turned to leave, a sword pieced through his chest. He turned to see his old friend, Pyrite, standing behind him. Before he could speak, another stab to the head. And then nothing. For years, the only thing he would see is black.

Around him, the bodies started to stir. As he lay there dying, the other dead imperials started calling to him, wanting to form together to create an emperor. A familiar voice cried out for him. His mate, Nayru, had seen everything. She knew she couldn't let him die. Not just out of love, but necessity. If he died, the emperor would form, and there would be nothing but more death and destruction. So she did what she had to.

Ripping the necklace from around her, a gift from Chronos himself, she moved his soul into the pendant. The bodies around her grew silent once more, and his old friend was nowhere to be seen. Nayru fled, clutching the pendant to her chest and returned back to her home. There she worked for weeks, months, even years seeing if she could save him from his doom.

Slowly, his soul became corrupted, fueled by the anger at his betrayal and demise. His body reformed, twisted and decaying from the hate inside him. His scars from his friend's sword still deep and easily distinguished against his now blackened scales. Pulling him from the pendant in this state would either kill him, or kill everyone. The pendant that holds him now sits in the back of Nayru's shop, and she awaits the day that she may be able to see her mate's smile again.
