Biography

pUajRie.gif Galen
Botanist/Farmer
Headstrong | Attentive | Agreeable

As a young hatchling, Galen faced a lot of persecution from his young playmates. They would make fun of his eyes or his horns, laugh at how long his whiskers were, Galen didn't understand why he would be picked on so much, why they thought he was the perfect target for their taunts. He faced the persecution long into his days as a grown dragon, feeling the sting of each word his peers would throw at him. His mentor, the local farmer, had assured him not to take their words to heart, that often times dragons would do so out of fear. Yet Galen had never understood why others would be so fearful of him, all his life Galen had been an agreeable and kind dragon, but as Galen grew he began to notice the clan not only feared him, but his mentor as well. The only thing Galen knew that he and his mentor had in common was that they both were Imperials. When the young dragon asked the older Imperial why the village seemed to not be as terrified of him, his mentor had an answer.
"They're just as afraid of me as they are you. They act amiable with me out of pure necessity, my family is the only one around these parts that knows the ways to work the soil despite the harsh conditions we live in. They know that if I so choose, I could stop selling produce in town and choose to sell it in the village a couple days travel away, even if it would be more work for me, I could make a better profit." He replied.
"So then why don't you? You could afford to leave this place for a better life with your family, find a place that doesn't seem to fear you for no reason." Galen asked with a tilt of his head, watching the farmer hunch over to check the soil.
"But why should I? Even if the villagers fear us, we got a good thing here...it's a secure lifestyle were we don't have to worry about surviving, we know the way to work this land and teaching my children the same methods ensures they won't have to face persecution for what we are. Dragons don't fear us for no reason...they have a perfectly good reason."
And that was the day Galen learned the reality of Emperors. Despite knowing now why the village feared him, it didn't change the fact that he still viewed it as wrong. It isn't as if he would become an Emperor out of nowhere one day.

He continued his training alongside his mentor daily as he endured the persecution the clan put him through daily. When his clan was attacked by Beastclan members, Galen chose to stand up to defend his home despite everything he'd gone through, after all...it was his home. Yet during the battle, a Serthis managed to strike Galen's face, leaving him disfigured and sending him into a blind rage, it was his survival instincts kicking in. From that day forward, the townspeople seemed to fear him even more, afraid of his strength and his appearance, so Galen chose to wear a mask to hide the face his clanmates feared. Yet, as more time passed he found he couldn't stand to stay and instead chose to leave his home, thanking his mentor for the many years of kindness and knowledge before taking his steps into the world.

That was when Galen met Kiri, a blind Skydancer wandering the frozen lands alone, finding her sitting in a field of flowers that had been tough enough to bloom in the frigid cold. He had been taken by her appearance almost instantly, one would call it love at first sight. His first words had been: "In a way, it's like you, isn't it?"

The next few weeks had been a whirlwind of trying to break down the walls Kiri had built so high, trying to understand her better and the blind Skydancer's needs, how she hated to be coddled and treated as if she were weak, instead it was obvious to him that what she needed was someone who would support her and encourage her to step outside her comfort zone. When he voiced his concerns about if she was certain she wanted him as her mate because of his appearance, Kiri said it didn't matter, she would love him regardless. It was that kind of unconditional love that let Galen take his mask off for the first time, letting her claws gently trace his face, it was the first time he'd trusted anyone to see his face. After that moment he knew that Kiri was truly meant to be his soulmate.
