Hatchlings are ghosts that are haunting the territory of Snowcrash's clan.
Her mate, Acrylic, has the ability to see ghosts that have lost so much of themselves, they're almost invisible. He and Ellectra them into the Ghost Theater and by giving them a role to play and a reason to engage with the world day-to-day (as an actor, a stagehand, a script writer, etc), they help them slowly regain their memories and sense of self.
Many of the ghosts eventually move on to the afterlife. If these ghosts wish to continue to haunt Sornieth, Acrylic and Ellectra help rehome them.
