Alchemy is an inexact science, any dragon in Sorineth could tell you that.
Exchanges are made, but not all exchanges are as equivalent as its practitioners would have you believe.
Objects of both little worth and great value are reduced to sludge in a myriad of colors, very rarely corresponding to the original artifact, and even then it is more coincidence than cause and effect.
But life? Throw life into the mix and suddenly it all becomes so much more interesting. Familiars, prey, other dragons... well. The cauldron isn't picky, and anything can be melted down to its base alchemical forms with a little patience. No one can tell the difference anyway, so it really doesn't matter. What's better is that life begets life and that fact captivates Dimas more than any other aspect of his craft.
