Biography

NUT
I may enfold and protect you from all evil
______________________________________________

Nut is the Egyptian goddess of the sky. She resembles the cope and is said to be the mother of the stars. She is married to her brother Geb with whom she has four children: Osiris, Seth, Isis and Nephthys. Most time she is depicted as a naked goddess which arches on her toes and fingertips over the earth. She separates the forces of chaos from the ordered cosmos in the world.

Nut and Geb fell in love, evoking the disfavour of their parents Schu and Tefnut. Schu decided to divide the lovers: Nut in heaven and Geb at the earth. Schu himself kept the siblings apart with his own body, the air. Nut took her one and only chance before their separation to conceive four children by Geb: Osiris, Seth, Isis and Nephthys.
When she was set as the sky she began to cry because of her broken heart. Her tears caused heavy rainfalls until Geb looked up to her and started to chat with her even though he was told not to do so. Nut started laughing and the earth was shattered by thunder, until her tears stopped. But from time to time even Geb is not able to comfort Nut which causes heavy rainfalls that leads to the flooding of the Nile.
Besides that Nut is said to be the protector and mother of the sun god Re. Every evening Re enters her mouth, passing through the underworld at night until she gives birth to him the next day again.
Nut is a very loving and passionate mother to her four children with Geb but since she considers Re as her son as well she tries everything to protect him as good as possible - not always to the delight of the proud Re.
