Laugmathur
~Gamemaster~

Laugmathur takes his job perhaps a slight bit too seriously.

Or himself.

Probably himself.

Anyway, while his official job description really only involves setting up regular games, activities, competitions and tourneys to make sure that the Outpost doesn't rip itself apart from the inside during peacetime, Laugmathur himself has decided to take it two steps further.

He has decided to become the Gamemaster.

The Master of Games.

All of them.

(No, really, all of them.)

No matter what type of game or how rare it is, if you name it, he will already know it. Not only in a vague, "Yes, I have heard of that." fashion, either; he will know it so well that he will be able to recite the rules purely from memory while speaking backwards. In his sleep, too, if he were the type to talk in his sleep - which he is not.

...he has been known to sleepwalk through games of chess against himself, though.

He takes an honest and almost hatchling-like delight in games of all kinds, and no-one is quite sure what distracted him from them enough in the first place to notice and court his mate, Varmunda, until she fell for him. His persistence can be explained by the fact that he seemed to make it into some sort of game to himself very quickly, but how he noticed her as something other than an opponent/participant in the first place is a mystery to all.

Anyway, along with that hatchling-like delight also comes a deep, hatchling-like hatred for cheaters. Unlike hatchlings, however, it isn't with the added stipulation of "unless it's me, in which case it's okay." No, Laugmathur comes by his supernatural inclination towards victory honestly, unlike 97% of his Flightmates. This was something that he quickly came to resent.

Where was the fun, the joy, the challenge in the games if everyone insists on cheating all the time?

So he packed up his belongings and migrated to the Sunbeam Ruins in the hope that the Light dragons' rumoured intelligence and distaste for lies were more than just rumours.

His hopes were realised, and he happily wandered around the Ruins for a good couple of years, challenging and being challenged, until he ran into Regin at a tourney. Neither Imperial were competing themselves, but they soon became embroiled in conversation after an idle comment or two on some of the competitors. After a while, it was revealed that Regin was there to scout for someone who would be willing to arrange similar events for his own Clan, as they were just about imploding out of boredom now that the War had calmed down.

Laugmathur, not one to turn down a challenge, immediately asserted that he would be willing to give it a try if they would have him for a trial month.

Needless to say, Regin accepted, and it was a great success. Laugmathur got permanently recruited (something he certainly didn't mind - there was just so much to do at the Outpost, and a great many worthy opponents for more casual games) and settled in swiftly, even if there was some initial trouble with the other resident Shadow dragons.

He and Egil have come to an uneasy truce, he has a mutual keep-away-contract with Asfrithur and he has grudgingly come to accept that Kolur's methods might be necessary sometimes, however, so it all worked out for the best.

Eventually.

Somehow.

The Clan as a whole prefers not to think about what was swiftly dubbed the "Shadow Wars".
