Shadow

Shadow's egg was discovered just after Aulula's, by the same moving orphanage. They grew up together, and Shadow has been in love with her for almost as long as he can remember. He was her closest friend, and when she decided to make her own way in life, he joined her. He goes along with most decisions she makes without questioning, as he holds a lot of faith and trust in her ideas. He was the one who pointed out that they should deem themselves a clan, after Aulula explained how she'd noticed how tight-knit the group was.

When he was young, the adults of the group would bury trinkets and morsels of food for him to dig up and don them happily. These early interactions would fuel his love for treasure hunting and wearing his treasure, for the rest of the life. Because of this, he loves to dress himself in adornments of his own findings, usually pretty cloth wrappings and gleaming jewelry. A common joke amongst the clan is that he looks like a wandering merchant, a jab that is amusing because he's renowned for being a terrible salesman.


Shadow is light-hearted and always joking with the others, heightening their spirits. He can make a joke out of anything, and doesn't seem to take any situation seriously. Even in the heat of battle, he'll be quipping wittily. However, he does take the safety and happiness of his friends very seriously, even if it doesn't seem like it. He'll come to their defense immediately, in both debates and in combat.

Quick-thinking and clever, he's very good at making snap decisions in the moment. He knows the danger of not doing anything at all. He finds fighting fun and invigorating. He's invaluable in battle, and a skilled hunter, as well as a seasoned treasure hunter.

In the midst of combat, he first goes to Aulula to protect her. Together, they are a terrifying duo. Aulula, crackling with energy and bringing it down upon her enemies, Shadow snarling and growling, leaping around her protectively and snapping at anyone who gets to close to his wife. Even before they became soul-bound with each other, they fought well as a team.

Shadow understands Aulula is almost always busy, and so most of their interactions consist of stolen nuzzles and brief hugs. He'll nuzzle her neck on the way by to remind her he's there for her if she seems stressed, and it always brings a smile to her face. He's the only one allowed to so casually touch her. At night, she always wanders into their den late, and he'll still be up, waiting for her. He'll pull her into a hug and snuggle all night long.

While no one of the clan would ever admit it, many of them think Aulula could do better. Shadow is nice, sure, but he's just a friendly jokester who happens to be good at fighting. Not much there. But they don't know how he can make her smile even when she's feeling at her worst, or how his jokes and witticisms help alleviate some of her stress, or how he's always soft and gentle around her, always trying to make her day better in any way she can. He supports her in anything she does, and she always has someone to lean on.
