"Your mother... She's sweet and all, but she never really learned how to parent a dragon who'll stay with the clan." The thorn-studded Pearlcatcher sighed, leather shifting on leather as her frame rose and fell. Spikes of bright blue mane started trailing into her eyes, blocking her sight of the tiny Snapper in front of her. How could you explain war, obsession, greed, to one so small? To one who would fit fine within the confines of the lair's heirarchy- being "blessed by the Shadowbinder," and the matriarch's granddaughter on top of that- but who might never quite find a place for herself, being so unexpected, yet having so much expected of her?

..."Listen, it's going to be all right. You have a home here, I'll make sure of it," her companion- a pastel Nocturne adorned in flowing finery- reassured. The Pearlcatcher, Cornelia, and the Nocturne, Perfume, exchanged a knowing glance. On the one hand, that wasn't the problem. On the other, the Snapper might not realize that. But, even if she did, Cornelia knew Perfume meant something deeper, more personal. A sense of duty- one especially pertinent to Cornelia.

A long time ago, before she was ever hatched, the Snapper had a much older sibling. She was soft, and bubbly, and kind, and... Well. Perfect, Cornelia supposed. They were both young and bright-eyed, although already Cornelia was a little less so. That didn't matter, though. They were ready to take on the world together, claws overlapping. She loved her so much.
