about. Due to some accidental mistreatment as a hatchling, Noe struggles with self-image, worth, and taking care of himself. He would give his last penny to someone else in need and will be at a sick dragon's bedside for days, but his own upkeep is low priority. He often forgets to eat and is known to get weak quickly if he isn't reminded. The coatl is very outgoing and helpful despite how he treats himself and has many friends within the Clan, several of which take time to make sure he's faring well. His interests include woodcraft, tidying and giving tours of the library (or anywhere else for that matter), and Narije herself - but Noe is far too shy and embarrassed of his feelings to ever say anything.
origins. In his home Clan - Heart of the Grotto - Noe and his siblings were quite a shock. Well... his older brother Khloen was the upstart, rather. The wildclaw had been born with something Noe now knows as Primal Sight - visage surrounded by budding leaves and bits of flowers while his eyes themselves continuously glowed. Their Clan didn't know what to think of it, and for Noe and his sister, the anomaly meant they were to be forgotten by those around them. Zillah grew angry and rebellious, but Noe couldn't find it in his heart to truly be upset. His parents - Twig, even - didn't really mean to ignore them, right? They still cared about him. Besides, he'd done nothing wrong.
Or... had he?
After failed attempts of voicing his concerns, Noe took to internalizing his worries and emotions, finding no better excuse than him not being a dragon worth attention as to why he and his sister were pushed to the side. If it weren't for Zillah, Noe probably would have faded away long ago; along with his lack of self-worth came bad eating habits and malnutrition. Despite how Noe felt about himself, he still cared deeply for others, stretching himself thin to aid their Clan without so much as a thank you. It finally clicked for the coatl when he began passing out due to lack of energy without so much as a pause in the bustle, Zillah once again being his only saving grace. Sure, he hadn't shown any knack for talent or ability like his parents had, and he was hardly worth more than a whelp, but still. Noe couldn't stand for behavior such as that. He was still a living being. He was still deserving of compassion.
Maybe... maybe this wasn't the Clan for him.
It took Noe much longer than he'd hoped to depart, as he wanted to make sure he wasn't shorting the others too much by leaving them with his duties, but when he did, it was during the night when he could go unnoticed. Once he had fled the Behemoth, Noe felt a huge weight lift from his shoulders. Was it relief? Freedom? It didn't matter. For the first time, Noe actually felt good. The longer he flew, however, the faster his elation faded. Despite knowing he was going on this trip, the coatl still hadn't eaten, and it didn't take long for him to teeter into a very sudden nose-dive to the ground.
When he stirred, Noe was greeted by the smell of warmth and old parchment. Being the breed he was, he could tell the difference in flame by scent and heat alone, and what was near him was nothing more than a gentle fire. It was... comforting. Slowly, he stirred awake, taking in his surroundings with bleary eyes before he gasped, diving under the blanket atop him afterwards. Over in the corner sat a pearlcatcher, cold gaze studying him. He shuddered in fear, only now catching the scent of another dragon. Now that he'd taken notice, the scent was especially strong in the mattress he laid upon. Did... she... live here? Was this hers?
Suddenly, Noe lifted himself up from his position and stared back at the dragon, headfeathers slicked back in embarrassment.
"I'm sorry - I shouldn't be here. I'm imposing and certainly don't need to be resting in your quarters." He wrung his paws in front of him while fretting, hopping down from the platform and wincing after. His right side was fairly sore... what'd happened? "I don't remember much, but I'll be out of your way now. Excuse me."
Noe had caught sight of his things earlier, then the door, and he'd begun gathering his items before a voice stopped him.
"No. Rest."
She'd spoken with such authority that Noe couldn't help but duck. After he'd put on his hat, Noe dared to look her way, refraining from making eye contact as he peered out from under the rim.
"I..."
"I'd prefer to not repeat myself. You were found in our territory injured and I offered my quarters for your recovery. Now,"
Rising from her cushion, the dragon snatched something from a nearby table and approached Noe, ushering him back to the bed. "Eat this. Rest. The sooner you regain strength, the sooner you can be on your way."
Noe had done as he'd instructed, only eating after he offered the pearlcatcher some first. She'd rolled her eyes and simply walked away, returning to her book. Later, he would learn her name was Narije and she was the Clan Librarian and Recordkeeper, he was indeed within a chamber of the library where she resided, and she was firm but not hostile. During the day she would be out, but other dragons would come and check on him to make sure he was well. Noe met their kindness with tears, at first, not expecting such hospitality from strangers. Soon he was eager to see who would come and go, happy to chat and inquire about how they were, what the weather was like, if they needed any help. They waved him off just as Narije had done.
Once Noe was mostly healed and mobile, he insisted Narije reclaim her bed, and if she still persisted he stay so he could be observed, he'd take up the large pillow in the corner she'd been using. At that point, however, she just raised a brow and instead suggested he use one of the spare rooms in another hall. Upon seeing the look on his face, the pearlcatcher instantly regretted her words, finding herself shrugging away from Noe's attempted hug and clamoring seconds later. What had she gotten herself into?
From that day on, Noe had found his place within the Clan, becoming more enamored with it after he was able to step outside and observe more. While he still needs to be reminded to eat and take care of himself, the coatl is happy and healthy, throwing himself into whatever work is needed to keep things running smoothly. Most of his time is spent within the library, however, taking up role as Narije's assistant. She wasn't keen on the idea, but she couldn't find herself saying no either, and truth be told, she enjoys his company.
