Garland loves doing things. She never was content to stay in the swamps and lurk, and she hated to be alone, a trait that grated on her independent parents and siblings. One day she decided she was just going to leave, and so she left. After travelling alone for many miles, she met an adolescent Burst hunting on the edge of the tangled wood. Though craving social living, she felt she was a bother on the small mixed-species clan and planned to stay for only a little while, to Starlight's protestations. That idea fell through when she met Sade and fell in love at first sight. After a long-lasting courtship, with Garland helping Sade deal with her depression, the two bonded.
When Burst found a light egg floating in the river, nearly quenched and put out, he brought it back to the couple. After months of care, the egg hatched into an abnormally small fae. Sade and Garland named their daughter Electra. Garland strongly encouraged her daughter to follow her calling towards craftsmanship, being very pleased and proud when Electra became one of the most renowned blacksmiths. But that was far from the end of Garland Sade adopting children. During a massive hurricane, Starlight brought them a tiny, shivering spiral hatchling who had stumbled into the cave after being separated from her family. The baby was too young to even speak. The couple raised her, naming her Sky. She and Sade also agreed to care for Crusander, a skydancer child who was constantly fighting with her sister, and the matriarch of their clan wanted them to spend some time apart. This resulted in an adolescent Crusander refusing to return to her birth clan, and in the end she came to live permanently with her adopted mothers. Garland is exasperated by Crusander's constant need for conflict, but loves her deeply and always is fearing for her safety.

Garland wants everyone to be happy and get along. Naturally, this seldom happens in a lair composed of those not wanted for some reason or another in 'normal' society. She does not handle tension or conflict well and is prone to fleeing to her corner of the lair to hide. Garland fears being harmed and is wary of strange dragons that are larger or stronger than she is. She is also known to fuss over younger dragons, and to try to shield them from the adult's conflicts. A very nurturing creature by nature, Garland usually cares for the young dragons of the clan until they decide where they want to go in life.
