As the sun set, Avari looked out over the forest that loomed before him. He wasn't afraid, not really. He'd already traversed the expanses of the scarred wasteland, found himself surrounded by death and rot in a way he'd never experienced before. Now he was stood in front of a lush and blossoming forest, the calls of the sakura owls echoing overhead. Except, he was actually scared. Somehow, this deep forest that was full of things that he'd never even heard of before, had shot him through with fear in a way that the scarred wasteland, the place that filled the horror stories of his childhood, hadn't.

He took a deep breath and stepped into the beginnings of the forest. Some of the plants began to glow as he brushed past them, as as he got deeper the flowers above his head blossomed and twinkled like stars. He stood for a moment, mouth agape in awe, as he stared straight up at the branches of the towering trunks. It wasn't something that struck him quickly, but as he stared at the ceiling of the forest, it dawned on him that he wasn't alone.

"Um, hello?" He called out into the forest in both his native humming tongue and typical draconain, looking over his shoulder. He was aware that if anyone responded in the language of the coatls, he would need to leave, lest they treat his faded plumage as a symbol of bad luck. If they spoke draconian, he could probably ask them for their recommendations in the local areas, and perhaps even shelter.

There was a moment before one of the bushes behind him. A small brown nymph poked its head out from the bushes and chirped at the dragon who emerged behind it, "Hi," the lightly coloured coatl spoke draconian, "Are you looking for something, or just wandering?"

Avari blinked at the coatl that approached, surprised that he hadn't responded in the native coatl tongue, "I, uh, I'm wandering, I guess?" He didn't know what else to say - both were true. He was wandering, trecking across Sornieth, but he was looking for adventure and stories to fill the legends of his birth clan. "I mean, I'm sort of doing both, but wandering mostly."

A silence elapsed before the other dragon nodded his head slightly, folding his wings back by his sides, "What are you looking for?"

"Stories," Avari let the word slip before he could bite it back to give a better explaination, the embarassment flooded him, "uh, I'm looking for stories to tell back home, so I want to meet other travellers and clans that have cool stories to tell. I'm looking for something to tell the hatchlings and to tell the adults over the fire."

Another wave of flushing flooded over him. He wasn't explaining it right, he'd let his enthusiasm overwhelm him. He probably looked really stupid to this stranger now.

"I know some people you'd want to talk to, follow me." The other dragon smiled at him, a spark lighting in his bright pink eyes. "I have some friends that have travelled across a lot of the land, so you might find some interesting stories there."

Avari's eyes widened, his mouth slipping open into a small gasp. He was here, being offered everything he could ever want all at once, all by accidental meeting with this strange dragon. Of course he was going to go, he couldn't imagine the amount of stories that were waiting for him deeper in these woods.

"I'd love to come with you!" He grinned, almost tripping over his own paws with his enthusiasm to catch up. "What can you tell me about this forest?"

With that question having escaped him, the rest of the discussion was filled with gentle chatter. Avari was about to get everything he ever wanted, and that was just the beginning.

1. Those who have tread strange paths have the opportunity to see many wonders. For Avari, he’s not much motivated to take along physical reminders of his travels. After all, what he’s seeking is stories, and in true loreteller tradition he prefers to memorize them instead of writing them down. However, tucked deep within his scarf, he keeps a tiny handbound book where he keeps one pressed petal of flowers that remind him of where he’s heard his most wonderful tales.

2. Strange paths can also lead to bad luck. He hasn’t quite fully acknowledged it yet, but after some of the places he’s been - especially after traveling through underground highways and deep forests - his eyesight isn’t the best, especially in bright light. Some might guess this is only a side effect of his shadow heritage, but the deterioration was especially noticeable after his travel through an arcane forest…

3. Avari’s first loves are stories and adventure, but he also has a taste for learning about the different locale’s he’s passed through. Lately, he’s been dreaming about dabbling in watercolors. He’s seen some lovely artists, and part of him thinks that might also serve as a great memento of travel… as well as a possible way to earn some cash in tight spots.
