Inesha came to Ista with her clan-sister, Rana, whose wings seemed constantly to drip with blood. Unpredictable and devoted, Rana barreled into the heart of the clan and made herself the Guardian of the Hatchlings, until the Icewarden called her across the Sea and into the desolate land beyond.

Unlike her nest-mate, Inesha never liked to be so obvious in her intentions. Though she was as quick to anger as her clan sister, she preferred to keep her emotions hidden as much as possible. Though many dragons approached her in those first few weeks, few were able to connect with her.

For Inesha, other dragons have always been difficult. Like all Skydancers, she is sensitive to the emotions of others, but she has always had some difficulty in controlling this ability. While others seem able to switch off and contain themselves, her consciousness drifts, swirling around the minds of her clan-mates and threading their emotions through her dreams.

She came to Ista, initially, to see if the mystical Water flight knew of some way to contain her dreams, so that she could sleep soundly for once, but though many tried, she still isn't completely in control.

Rather than despair, Inesha chose to use her gift to help the clan. With Alniyat, she serves as the clan's spy, reading the atmosphere in gatherings and watching other clan leaders carefully, to see if there are any alliances they should be concerned about.

She had, once, found an odd camaraderie with Jojen and Meera, the Seer and his guard. He understood her sensitivity, and was a quiet presence when she required company. He sometimes offered valuable insights when she was too tangled in other dragons' emotions to know her own. She misses that, perhaps even more than she misses him. Jojen's death hit her hard, and the well of sorrow at her lost friend has begun to interfere with her work.

Her sudden difficulty couldn't have come at a worse time. At the end of a long expedition, taxing both her strength and her emotions as it had required Tarel's help, she had collapsed into her bed and slept for nearly two whole days. When she woke, it was to find that she was Gods-touched. Her wings glimmered like light through water, casting coloured shadows across the floor wherever she walked.

She had reassigned Alniyat to take over most of the stealth jobs she had planned for herself while she was busy relearning all her old skills with her new gift, but since the Imperial has been called to serve the Tidelord, she's having to make do herself. It's difficult; her wings catch the light at the most inconvenient moments, sending scattered rainbows across the floor and giving her away. Her job is more dangerous, now, than ever before, but she has no choice.

She could, probably, outsource much of her work to Icsariu and Dothan, but she can't quite bring herself to do it. There's something not quite right about either of them: Icsariu with his quick smiles and darting eyes, and this new, strange stillness that seems to be in Dothan's bones. She wonders what happened to the nervous but friendly dragon she had initially been assigned, but there's no time to ask him. Not yet. For now, it's all she can do to keep herself alive. Dothan will have to fend for himself just a little longer.
